Xiaomi 17 Series Launched With Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Dual Displays, and High-Capacity Batteries

Xiaomi has officially introduced the Xiaomi 17 series in China, consisting of the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. All three Phones are equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, high-brightness AMOLED displays, large-capacity batteries, and Leica-branded triple-camera systems. The Pro models add a secondary rear display, continuing Xiaomi’s push to integrate new display technology into its premium lineup.

The Xiaomi 17 weighs 191g and features a 6.3-inch straight AMOLED display with ultra-narrow 1.18mm bezels, a 19.6:9 aspect ratio, and Dragon Crystal Glass protection. The screen supports up to 3,500 nits peak brightness with M10 luminescent technology, which improves energy efficiency through upgraded light-emitting materials. The device is rated for IP66, IP68, and IP69 resistance, covering dust, water, and high-pressure spray protection.

Inside, the Xiaomi 17 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, paired with a three-dimensional ring cold pump cooling system, which Xiaomi claims offers three times the efficiency of traditional vapor chambers. The phone is equipped with a 7,000mAh battery, tested for up to 12.2 hours of continuous video playback, surpassing the endurance of Apple’s iPhone 17 with an additional 5,000mAh battery pack.

For imaging, the Xiaomi 17 integrates a triple 50MP rear camera setup:

  • 50MP 1/1.31-inch Light Hunter 950 sensor (main)
  • 50MP ultra-wide camera
  • 50MP floating telephoto lens
The front camera also uses a 50MP sensor.

Pricing begins at ¥4,499 ($630) for the 12GB + 256GB model, with higher configurations available.

The Xiaomi 17 Pro builds on the compact design with a 2.7-inch rear AMOLED display. This secondary panel allows users to preview selfies with the main cameras, manage notifications, control music, and run additional features such as timers or wallpapers. The front display is a 6.3-inch LTPO panel supporting 1–120Hz refresh rates and up to 3,500 nits peak brightness. Protection is handled by Dragon Crystal Glass.

Performance is provided by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, paired with 12GB or 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB UFS 4.1 storage. A 4,637mm² vapor chamber handles cooling, while the 6,300mAh battery supports 100W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and 22.5W reverse charging.

The triple-camera system includes:

  • 50MP 1/1.28-inch Light Fusion 950L sensor with f/1.67 Leica Summilux lens and OIS
  • 50MP 5x periscope telephoto with OIS and 20cm macro capability
  • 50MP 102° ultra-wide lens
A 50MP selfie camera and a 3D ToF sensor are also included.

The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max offers a 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED display with 12-bit color and 3,500 nits brightness, alongside a 2.9-inch rear display. The device shares the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 with its siblings but employs a 5,533mm² vapor chamber for thermal management. It features 12GB or 16GB RAM with storage options starting at 512GB.

Battery capacity increases to 7,500mAh, supporting 100W wired, 50W wireless, and 22.5W reverse charging. The camera setup matches the 17 Pro, with one upgrade: the telephoto lens uses a 1/2-inch ISOCELL GN8 sensor with an f/2.6 aperture, improving light capture compared to the Pro’s f/3.0 lens. Macro shots are possible at 30cm.

The Xiaomi 17 series features comprehensive durability ratings. The Xiaomi 17 carries IP66/IP68/IP69 certification, while the Pro models are IP68-rated, with the 17 Pro tested for 4m submersion and the Pro Max up to 6m.
