Star Trek: Shadow Frontier Officially Revealed, Developed by Bloober Team for 2027 Launch

Paramount Games Studio has officially announced Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, a new story-driven third-person action-adventure game revealed during the IGN Live Showcase 2026. The project is being developed by Bloober Team, marking another major collaboration for the studio following its work on narrative-heavy and psychological titles. The game is planned for release in 2027 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X, and PC via Steam.

Set within the universe of Star Trek, the game focuses on Ro Laren, portrayed by Michelle Forbes, who returns to the role from Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Picard. The story begins after Ro crash-lands on a remote and hostile planet controlled by a mysterious planet-wide consciousness. What appears at first to be an unknown survival situation quickly evolves into a psychological struggle, where the environment itself begins to interfere with perception, memory, and reality.

The planet is not just a backdrop but an active force in the gameplay experience. It reshapes terrain, creates hostile lifeforms, and manipulates surroundings to disorient and trap the player. Ro must navigate this environment while balancing exploration, combat encounters, and environmental puzzles. The deeper she goes, the more her memories begin to distort, raising uncertainty about what is real and what is being influenced by the planet’s intelligence.

Bloober Team has emphasized a gameplay structure that blends exploration, puzzle-solving, cinematic sequences, and tactical combat. Players will be encouraged to observe enemy behavior, environmental cues, and use resources carefully rather than relying on constant combat engagement. Classic Star Trek tools also play a key role, with devices such as the Tricorder used for scanning and analysis, while the Phaser is used both in combat and for interacting with environmental challenges.

The developers describe the experience as a mix of tension-driven exploration and narrative progression, where every decision can impact Ro’s survival and understanding of the planet. Encounters are designed to be unpredictable, with creatures and environmental hazards appearing unexpectedly, forcing adaptive decision-making.

Shawn Kittelsen, SVP and Head of Creative and Production at Paramount Games Studio, commented on the collaboration:

“We’ve long admired the way Bloober Team crafts deeply immersive, atmospheric experiences that keep players on the edge of their seats. For Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, it was essential to partner with a studio that could both honor that legacy and push it forward. We have full confidence in Bloober’s ability to deliver a game that does justice to the Star Trek name while bringing something bold and new to the beloved franchise.”

Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno also shared insight into the project’s direction:

“We’ve been waiting a long time to finally share what we’ve been working on. As lifelong fans of science fiction, Star Trek has always held a special place in our hearts. By combining that passion with what we do best, horror, we’ve partnered with Paramount to create something truly unique: a new adventure set in a beloved universe, enriched with our own signature layer of dark, psychological thriller. We’re genuinely excited about this journey, and our hope is to honor the legacy of Star Trek in a way that feels both respectful yet refreshingly different.”

The game is already available for wishlisting on Steam, where preliminary PC system requirements have also been listed. While these specifications may change closer to launch, they provide an early indication of the baseline hardware target.
