Sony Rumored to Bring Back inFamous With a New PlayStation Studio

Sony could be preparing to revisit another classic PlayStation franchise, as fresh rumors suggest the inFamous Series may finally return after years of inactivity. The latest reports claim that a new project connected to the franchise is already in development, although it may not involve the original creators at Sucker Punch Productions.

The discussion started after gaming insider NateTheHate2 claimed on X that Sony has been looking into reviving older and unused PlayStation IPs. According to the insider, these projects are expected to focus on franchises from the PlayStation 1, PlayStation 2, and possibly the PlayStation 3 era. While no specific titles were mentioned at first, another report quickly pointed toward inFamous as one of the franchises being considered for a return.

During a recent VGC Podcast appearance, journalist Jordan Miller stated that there is “an inFamous thing happening somewhere else in PlayStation.” The wording suggests that the rumored project is being developed internally at PlayStation Studios, but not by Sucker Punch itself. Miller did not reveal further details regarding the source of the information, the scale of the project, or whether it is planned as a full sequel, reboot, or spin-off.

The inFamous franchise first debuted on PlayStation 3 in 2009 and became one of Sony’s major action-adventure series during that generation. The games focused on superpowered protagonists, open-world exploration, and morality systems that allowed players to shape the story through good or evil decisions. The series later moved to PlayStation 4 with InFamous: Second Son and its standalone expansion, InFamous: First Light.

With Sucker Punch Productions currently working on Ghost of Yotei, it would make sense for Sony to assign another studio to handle a possible revival. The timing of the rumor is also interesting, especially after Sony reportedly closed projects connected to Bluepoint Games, a team known for remakes and remasters.

At this stage, Sony has not officially announced a new inFamous title, and the information remains unconfirmed. Even so, interest in older PlayStation franchises has continued to grow, especially as publishers increasingly revisit legacy IPs for modern hardware. If the rumors are accurate, the return of inFamous could become one of the more notable PlayStation announcements for the PS5 generation.
