Polish developer Reikon Games has confirmed that RUINER 2 is in development for PC, expanding on the 2017 twin-stick shooter that gained praise for its fast-paced combat and cyberpunk setting. RUINER 2 marks a shift in genre, moving from a traditional shooter to a Cyberpunk action RPG. Game Director Marek Roefler shared insights on the sequel, highlighting a shift in gameplay focus:
“We are massive ARPG fans, and RUINER 2 is the game we’ve always wanted to play. We built the Shell System because we love theory-crafting and finding broken combinations, but we hated being locked into a single character for a hundred hours. This game is for players who want to experiment, swap builds on the fly, and discover synergies that tear the screen apart.”
The game returns to Rengkok, a dystopian city ruled by corporations, where players assume the role of a hacker navigating high-stakes combat. Single-player mode allows a player to manage up to three Shells simultaneously, while co-op supports up to three players for a total of six Shells on the battlefield. This system emphasizes synergies between characters, encouraging experimentation with builds and strategies.
Reikon Games has also confirmed an “endless endgame” featuring escalating enemy tiers, improved loot, and no upper limit, offering long-term replayability. The Steam page already lists minimum system requirements, giving players an early look at the technical demands for the PC version. While RUINER was eventually released across multiple consoles, including PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch, no console release for RUINER 2 has been confirmed, though it remains a possibility.
