Retroid Introduces Dual-Screen Accessory with 5.5-Inch AMOLED Display for Handheld Consoles

Retroid has unveiled a new dual-screen accessory aimed at enhancing its line of handheld gaming consoles. Announced yesterday, the accessory adds a secondary 5.5-inch AMOLED touchscreen to supported devices, allowing users to simulate a dual-screen gaming setup reminiscent of the Nintendo DS system.

The new attachment is designed for users who prefer expanded functionality on compact handheld devices. With a screen resolution of 1920×1080, the display supports multi-touch input, a peak brightness of 500 nits, a 100,000:1 contrast ratio, and a color gamut that covers 107% of the sRGB space. The use of AMOLED technology also ensures deeper blacks and improved visual clarity during gameplay or multitasking.

Weighing in at 130 grams, the accessory does not feature a built-in battery. Instead, it draws power directly from the connected device via USB-C. It supports DisplayPort over USB-C, which is required for the screen to function. The screen can be tilted to preset angles of 120, 150, or 180 degrees, allowing users to adjust the setup for gaming, productivity, or emulation.

Retroid confirmed that the accessory will work with its current Pocket 5, Pocket Mini, Pocket Mini V2, and Pocket 4 Pro consoles. It may also be compatible with third-party handhelds or smartphones that support USB-C with DisplayPort output and have a screen size between 6 to 7 inches. This opens the door for broader use cases beyond Retroid’s own ecosystem, although performance and compatibility may vary depending on the device.

The accessory will be available in three color options: black, GameCube-style purple (referred to as “GC”), and a clear transparent shell. The unit is priced at $69 USD, although it has not yet been released for sale. Retroid has not provided a specific release date but has shared preliminary information through its official channels.

According to the initial product listing, the accessory will include a screen protector and a storage bag. However, it is unclear whether these items are bundled with every purchase or sold separately. More details may emerge closer to the retail launch.

The introduction of this Retroid Dual-Screen accessory comes at a time when the handheld gaming market is seeing increased interest in modular and expandable features. Devices like the Steam Deck, ASUS ROG Ally, and Ayaneo consoles have sparked renewed focus on portable gaming experiences, and Retroid’s latest offering appears to align with that trend, aiming to deliver a dual-screen experience for both retro and modern titles.

More information is expected to be shared through Retroid’s community channels and website in the coming weeks.
