Asobo Studio has officially announced the third installment in its narrative-driven series, A Plague Tale, titled Resonance – A Plague Tale. The reveal took place during the Xbox Games Showcase, offering a first look at the game through a debut trailer. Scheduled for release in 2026, the game is confirmed for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S platforms.
Unlike its predecessors, Resonance takes players further back in time, set fifteen years before the events of A Plague Tale: Requiem. The new protagonist is Sofia, a young woman navigating a harsh 14th-century world as she strives to carve out her own path as a plunderer. The announcement trailer focuses on the tone and setting but avoids showing any of the series’ iconic rat swarms, leaving fans to speculate on what familiar elements may or may not return.

Sofia appears to bring a different kind of energy to the story. While Innocence and Requiem centered around the sibling bond of Amicia and Hugo, Resonance seems to explore independence and survival from a new angle. The change in time period and character may offer opportunities for the developers to explore different themes while staying within the framework established in previous entries.

So far, specific gameplay details have not been shared. However, based on the evolution from Innocence to Requiem, it’s reasonable to expect further refinements in both storytelling and gameplay mechanics. Asobo Studio has gradually built a reputation for delivering emotionally grounded narratives with immersive world design, and expectations are naturally high for what this new entry could bring to the series.
The setting shown in the trailer hints at a continuation of the studio’s focus on visually rich environments and historical backdrops. While there was no clear sign of supernatural elements in the footage, past entries have blended grounded medieval realism with dark, almost mystical undertones. Whether Resonance follows the same formula or shifts direction remains to be seen.

With a projected launch more than a year away, more information is likely to emerge over the coming months. Fans of the series will be watching closely for updates on gameplay, story developments, and how this new chapter ties into the broader narrative universe of A Plague Tale.
Resonance – A Plague Tale is in development and slated for release in 2026 across all major current-generation platforms.
