Pocketpair has officially rolled out Palworld Update 0.5, introducing several major features, including full cross-play support, a new storage system, a Photo Mode, and more. The update aims to enhance the overall gameplay experience while addressing various bugs and balance issues. However, PlayStation 5 players will have to wait a bit longer for dedicated servers.
Key Features in Update 0.5
- Cross-Play Between All Platforms
One of the biggest additions in this update is cross-play support, allowing players across different platforms to play together seamlessly. This has been one of the most requested features, and its inclusion is expected to strengthen Palworld’s multiplayer experience.
- Global Palbox and Dimensional Pal Storage
Managing Pals just got easier with the introduction of Global Palbox, which enables players to store and transfer their Pals between different worlds. In addition, the new Dimensional Pal Storage offers a 10x larger capacity compared to a regular Palbox. This can be accessed by guild members or used as private storage with customizable settings.
- Cosmetic Armor System
Players can now equip armor purely for cosmetic purposes. With the addition of the Antique Dresser, outfits can be changed without affecting character stats. This feature gives players more flexibility in customizing their character’s look without compromising gameplay advantages.
- Photo Mode
A brand-new Photo Mode is now available through the Pal Command Wheel, allowing players to hide the UI and adjust the camera freely to capture high-quality screenshots. This is expected to be a popular feature among the community, as Palworld’s colorful and dynamic world offers plenty of opportunities for stunning in-game photography.
- Drafting Table for Upgrading Blueprints
Players can now combine lower-rarity blueprints to craft higher-rarity ones, making item progression smoother and reducing inventory clutter.
Dedicated Servers and PlayStation 5 Delays
While the update brings dedicated servers for Mac players, Pocketpair confirmed that PlayStation 5 dedicated servers are not yet available. The developers are actively working on adding support but have not provided a specific release timeline.
Palworld’s Growth and Legal Challenges
Since its initial launch, Palworld has been a major success, amassing 32 million players. However, its momentum has been somewhat affected by legal issues.
Recently, Nintendo filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair for alleged patent infringement. During a talk at GDC 2025, Pocketpair’s communications director, John Buckley, expressed surprise at the legal action, stating that the company had performed legal checks before the game’s release in Japan and had not anticipated this issue. The lawsuit caused delays in certain plans, including the PlayStation release and participation in the Tokyo Game Show, leading the company to take extra security precautions.
Despite the challenges, Pocketpair remains committed to expanding Palworld’s features and growing its player base. With cross-play now in place and significant quality-of-life improvements, this update marks another step forward for the game’s long-term success.
