Saber Interactive and Anshar Studios have officially announced the release date for the upcoming reimagining of Painkiller, the classic first-person shooter known for its fast-paced, demon-slaying action. The new version is scheduled to release on October 9, 2025, and will be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
The game will launch under the 3D Realms publishing label and will feature a fully revamped experience with updated visuals, cooperative gameplay, and multiple playable characters. Fans of the original series, as well as new players, can pre-order the Standard or Deluxe Editions starting today through digital platforms, with physical pre-orders available for consoles at select retail stores.
The digital Standard Edition is priced at $39.99 and comes with an exclusive “Iron Crusade” skin pack as a pre-order bonus. This pack includes cosmetic skins for all four playable characters—Ink, Void, Sol, and Roch—as well as skins for six weapons: the Electrodriver, Stakegun, Shotgun, SMG, Hand Cannon, and Rocket Launcher. Console players who pre-order physical copies will also receive the “Burnished Pride” weapon pack, which includes gold-themed versions of the same weapons.
For those looking for additional content, the Deluxe Edition is available for $49.99. It includes everything from the Standard Edition, along with three planned post-launch DLC packs. Each of these DLCs will contain more weapons and character skins to expand customization options.
The setting of the game places players in Purgatory, where they must fight through legions of grotesque enemies in an effort to earn redemption. According to the official description, players have been sentenced for past actions but are offered one final opportunity to atone by stopping a demonic invasion led by the fallen angel Azazel.

Gameplay features include a focus on fast, fluid movement, with mechanics such as jumping, grappling, and dashing through large environments. Players can engage in solo play or join up to two other players in online co-op mode. The game offers a wide range of enemy types, from standard demon hordes to large-scale bosses described as the children of Azazel, known as the Nephilim.
Players can select from four unique characters, each bringing their own abilities and advantages in combat. Additionally, players can make use of tarot cards to enhance skills and progress through a ranking system to unlock more weapons and upgrades.
Painkiller will be released across all major current-gen platforms and is set to bring a fresh take on a cult-favorite title. Pre-orders are open now, with more details and updates available through the game’s official website and social media channels.
