Ironwood Studios has announced the first major expansion for Pacific Drive, titled Whispers in the Woods. The DLC is scheduled to launch in 2025 and will expand the game with new story elements, anomalies, and a unique artifact system.
The reveal took place today at the conclusion of a live countdown stream, which ended with the premiere of a new trailer at 12 p.m. ET. Shortly after the reveal, further details were shared on the PlayStation Blog, providing a first look at the content featured in the expansion.
Whispers in the Woods takes players into unexplored regions of the Olympic Exclusion Zone. The narrative focuses on a hidden group of anomaly-obsessed fanatics who inhabit the forests. The expansion introduces a fully voiced storyline, additional exploration opportunities, and new challenges for players who venture into the Zone.
A key gameplay addition comes in the form of Artifacts. These items serve as the centerpiece of the expansion and introduce unpredictable conditions that affect gameplay. For example, a jump might activate the vehicle’s horn, while honking the horn could cause damage to the car. Artifacts can interact with each other, leading to chain reactions that alter how players approach survival and resource management.
Cassandra Dracott, Creative Director at Ironwood Studios, explained that the expansion draws on community feedback to enhance the game’s atmosphere. The team’s focus was to build upon the fear and tension players associated with Pacific Drive while adding fresh mechanics and environments.
The expansion will be accessible alongside the base campaign, making it available to both new players and existing fans. Ironwood Studios stated that Whispers in the Woods represents the most complete version of Pacific Drive so far, with more systems and content to discover. Additional information on the release window and platforms is expected closer to launch.
