OwLab Introduces Ticktype Sub-Brand and Launches DP104 Full-Size Wireless Mechanical Keyboard

OwLab, a company well-known among keyboard enthusiasts for its high-end DIY mechanical keyboards, has introduced a new sub-brand called Ticktype. The new label aims to bring OwLab’s build quality and attention to detail to the pre-built keyboard market, providing options for users who prefer ready-to-use models without needing to assemble them. The company announced that two existing Qwertykeys models—the Evo75 and Evo80—will now be sold under the Ticktype name. Alongside this update, Ticktype unveiled a new full-size keyboard called the DP104, marking its first original release under the brand.

The Ticktype DP104 is a full-size mechanical keyboard that combines a traditional layout with modern design elements. It features a durable aluminium case and comes equipped with a numpad, making it suitable for productivity as well as gaming. The DP104’s design draws inspiration from retro aesthetics while integrating several contemporary features commonly seen in the custom keyboard community.

The keyboard features a quick-release ball-catch top case that lets users easily remove the cover for cleaning or making adjustments. This design helps newcomers to mechanical keyboards experiment with customization without needing to take the board apart completely. Above the numpad sits an interactive pixel display—a compact rectangular screen capable of showing dynamic animations like reactive fireworks, typing feedback, or an audio visualizer that reacts to ambient sounds. It can also present practical details such as battery level, system mode, and time. Complementing these additions are a customizable RGB light bar and dedicated volume control buttons for convenient access.

From a connectivity standpoint, the DP104 supports tri-mode connections—Bluetooth, 2.4 GHz wireless, and USB Type-C wired—offering flexibility for both work and play. It supports an 8,000 mAh battery with 10W charging and an 8 kHz polling rate on both 2.4 GHz and wired modes, ensuring low latency performance.

Inside, the DP104 uses what Ticktype describes as a dual-bridge Be-Cu structure, a mounting system based on leaf springs and rubber gaskets designed to reduce case vibration and improve sound dampening. The PCB features flex cuts to deliver a slightly softer typing feel, and the default build includes a polypropylene (PP) plate. Depending on community feedback, the brand may release additional plate options in future production runs.

The keyboard will be available in five colors—Mecha Grey, Powder White, First Light, Cat Paws Pink, and Blue Sky—each with matching dye-sublimated PBT keycaps in a Cherry profile. Users can choose between two factory switch options: Rye Linear switches with a light actuation force and Cloud Silent Tactile switches for a quieter, more responsive feel. The tactile switches will be limited to the Mecha Grey and Powder White versions, while the linear option will ship with the other colorways.

While Ticktype has not yet revealed the official price, the DP104 is expected to become available in late November, according to the company’s announcement. The release marks OwLab’s entry into a more accessible part of the market, giving newcomers and enthusiasts alike a way to experience the company’s design philosophy without diving into a full DIY build.

With Ticktype, OwLab aims to bridge the gap between pre-built and custom mechanical keyboards. The DP104’s combination of connectivity, premium materials, and thoughtful design could make it a notable option for users seeking both function and flexibility in a single device.
