Nintendo has set a new company record in hardware sales, with the Switch family reaching 155.37 million units worldwide. The figure surpasses the Nintendo DS total of 154.02 million units, making the Nintendo Switch lineup the best-selling console platform in the company’s history.
The milestone comes as the Nintendo Switch 2 continues to gain traction following its launch in June 2025. The new system has sold 17.37 million units to date. During the recent holiday quarter, global shipments of Switch 2 reached 7.01 million units. In comparison, the original Switch sold 1.36 million units in the same period, signaling a shift toward the newer hardware while the previous generation remains in circulation.

Software sales have supported the hardware growth. Nintendo reports 37.93 million Switch 2 game units sold so far, largely driven by first-party releases. Mario Kart World has reached 14.03 million copies, while Donkey Kong Bananza stands at 4.25 million units. Pokémon Legends: ZA has sold 3.89 million copies, and Kirby Air Riders, released in November, has recorded 1.76 million units in sales.
The original Switch platform continues to contribute to overall software numbers, with cumulative sales of 108.93 million units this quarter. Catalog titles remain active sellers, including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at 70.59 million copies and Super Mario Party Jamboree at 9.41 million units. Backward compatibility across the Switch ecosystem appears to be sustaining demand.
Reports indicate Nintendo may revise Switch 2 pricing, potentially discontinuing the $449 base model in favor of bundles starting at $499. Rising component costs, U.S. tariff pressures, and broader economic factors have influenced pricing strategies across the console market.
