Microsoft Reveals Xbox Nano Controller for Xbox, PC, Mobile, and Cloud Gaming

Microsoft has announced the Xbox Nano Controller, a compact gamepad designed for Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, mobile devices, and select smart TVs. Priced at $49.99 in the US and £44.99 in the UK, the controller measures just over five inches long and weighs 3.5 ounces. Microsoft describes it as its smallest Xbox controller yet, with pre-orders open ahead of its November 4 launch.

Despite its small size, the Xbox Nano Controller retains all 18 standard gameplay inputs and adds a programmable Action Button for screenshots and gameplay capture. It supports Xbox Wireless and Bluetooth connectivity, allowing it to work across multiple devices, including Xbox consoles, Windows PCs, iOS and Android devices, and compatible smart TVs. A built-in rechargeable battery powers the controller, although Microsoft has not disclosed its battery life.

Several hardware details remain unconfirmed, including color options, rumble support, and whether the gamepad includes impulse triggers. These omissions leave questions about how closely the smaller controller matches the features of Microsoft’s standard Xbox gamepads.

The Xbox Nano Controller will launch on November 4 across 36 markets, including the US, UK, Japan, and much of Europe. Microsoft is also planning US holiday promotions with select Samsung TVs and Meta Quest headsets, which will include the controller and two months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for new members.

The compact design could appeal to players using Xbox Cloud Gaming on televisions and compatible devices. However, the service is also scheduled to introduce monthly playtime limits in November. Ultimate subscribers will receive 15 hours per month, Premium subscribers 10 hours, and Essential subscribers five hours, with additional hours available at an extra cost.

At $49.99, the Xbox Nano Controller is more expensive than alternatives such as the CRKD Atom+ at $29.99 and the 8BitDo Lite 2 at $34.99. Native Xbox Wireless support may help justify the higher price for players already using Microsoft’s ecosystem, but battery life and the final hardware specifications will be important factors in assessing its value. Microsoft has yet to provide further details on those features ahead of launch.
