Lenovo Says Legion Go Will No Longer Receive Driver Updates

Lenovo’s original Lenovo Legion Go handheld is reportedly reaching the end of its official driver update cycle, according to a statement issued by Lenovo Korea and shared on local community forums. The company confirmed that there are currently no plans to release additional driver updates for the device. Instead, users are being advised to install system updates through Windows Update and Lenovo Vantage, and to rely on AMD’s official website for graphics driver downloads when necessary.

In its response to customer inquiries, Lenovo Korea clarified that the Legion Go and the Lenovo Legion Go S feature different hardware configurations, which means their BIOS versions and drivers are not compatible. The company specifically warned users not to attempt cross-installing firmware or drivers between the two models. It also stated that no further dedicated driver releases are planned for the Legion Go at this time, without outlining a reason behind the decision.

The Legion Go launched in late 2023 and is powered by the AMD Z1 Extreme, a Zen 4-based APU that remains relevant in the current handheld market. The chip is still used in several competing devices, making the halt in official driver support notable given the hardware’s age and capabilities. Lenovo recommends that users download AMD’s latest universal graphics drivers if compatible. However, the company noted that due to chipset-specific requirements, generic drivers may not always function as expected, in which case users should revert to versions delivered through Windows Update and Lenovo Vantage.

Although the device will continue to function normally and receive operating system updates, the absence of tailored driver releases could limit future optimizations or performance refinements. Competing products such as the ASUS ROG Ally and ASUS ROG Ally X, which also use AMD’s Z1 series processors, are still receiving periodic firmware and driver updates.

Lenovo Korea apologized for not being able to provide a more satisfactory response, acknowledging user concerns. At this stage, there is no confirmation on whether driver development for the Legion Go could resume in the future, leaving current owners dependent on Microsoft’s update ecosystem and AMD’s broader driver support.
