KytyPS5 Emulator Runs GTA 5 at Up to 60 FPS on PC

PS5 emulation is moving faster than many expected, and Grand Theft Auto 5 is now one of the clearest examples. The KytyPS5 emulator can reportedly run the PS5 version of Rockstar’s Game at between 40 and 60 frames per second on a high-end PC, although the current build still crashes after only a few minutes.

A demonstration shared on X shows GTA 5 running on a system powered by an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D processor and Radeon RX 7900 XT graphics card. The game reaches playable frame rates during the opening North Yankton sequence, with performance reportedly varying between 40 and 60 FPS depending on the scene.

The test does not represent a fully playable version of GTA 5, however. The emulator manages to get through several minutes of the opening section before crashing shortly before the police encounter. Stability remains one of the biggest problems facing PS5 emulation, even when individual games can now reach relatively high frame rates.

What makes the result interesting is how quickly KytyPS5 has progressed. Just a month ago, GTA 5 was reportedly stuck at its splash screen. By July, the project had advanced far enough to reach the game’s menus. The latest demonstration now shows actual gameplay running at a frame rate that can approach the game’s 60 FPS target.

The current progress can be summarized by a few key points:

  • GTA 5 reaches around 40–60 FPS in the demonstrated sections.
  • Testing was performed with a Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Radeon RX 7900 XT.
  • The opening North Yankton sequence is playable for several minutes.
  • The game currently crashes before the police encounter.
  • At least four other PS5 games have reportedly reached 60 FPS through KytyPS5.

The results also suggest that the improvements are not limited to Grand Theft Auto 5. At least four other PS5 titles have reportedly been shown running at 60 FPS through the emulator. Reaching that frame rate is only one part of the problem, though. Developers still need to address crashes, compatibility, graphics rendering, audio, input support, and other issues before these games can be considered reliable.

Another PS5 emulation project, SharpEmu, is following a different development path. Rather than concentrating heavily on individual games, its developers are working on low-level accuracy and the underlying infrastructure needed for broader compatibility. The two approaches could eventually contribute to better PS5 emulation as the projects mature.

The timing is also interesting because interest in PS5 hardware remains high ahead of Grand Theft Auto 6. Rockstar Games has yet to confirm a PC version of its upcoming open-world title, leaving PC players waiting for official details.

KytyPS5’s progress should not be taken as a sign that GTA 6 will soon be playable through emulation. A modern PS5 title of that scale would present a much greater challenge, and current PS5 emulators still have major stability and compatibility problems. For now, getting GTA 5 from a splash screen to several minutes of 40–60 FPS gameplay is a clear indication that PS5 emulation development is advancing at a rapid pace.
