Kingston has introduced its first cable-free portable solid-state drive. The new Dual Portable SSD is built for users who need a compact storage option that can handle frequent data backup and transfer tasks without relying on external cables or adapters. This launch expands Kingston’s portable lineup while addressing the growing demand for simple and reliable storage solutions across multiple platforms.

The Dual Portable SSD features a compact and durable metal casing that resembles a traditional flash drive but delivers SSD-class speeds and capacity. It includes both USB Type-A and USB Type-C connectors on the device itself, allowing users to switch between laptops, desktops, tablets, and mobile phones with ease. This dual-connector approach helps users move files between older systems with USB-A ports and modern devices relying on USB-C.

With support for USB 3.2 Gen 2, the Dual Portable SSD offers transfer speeds of up to 1,050 MB/s read and 950 MB/s write. These speeds allow users to manage large files such as high-resolution photos, raw images, and 4K video content without long waiting times. Kingston highlights this performance as a way to help content creators, office users, and students maintain a smoother workflow during file transfers and backups.
According to Keith Schimmenti, SSD business manager at Kingston, more consumers are choosing to keep their data stored locally rather than relying solely on cloud services. He noted that the Dual Portable SSD supports this shift by giving users a practical tool for sharing, storing, and safeguarding their files, regardless of the device they are using.

The SSD is available in 512 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB capacities, offering flexibility for different storage requirements. Kingston has equipped the drive with 3D NAND flash to ensure stable performance and power efficiency. The device weighs only 13 g and measures 71.85 mm × 21.1 mm × 8.6 mm, making it small enough to carry in a pocket, bag, or small accessory pouch.
The casing combines metal and plastic materials to balance durability and portability. The drive supports operating temperatures from 0°C to 60°C and storage temperatures from -20°C to 85°C, enabling it to function reliably in various environments. Like many Kingston products, it comes with a limited five-year warranty and free technical support.
Compatibility is broad, covering Windows 11, macOS 13.7.6 and later, Linux 4.4x and newer, ChromeOS, Android, and iOS/iPadOS 13 or later. This ensures that the Dual Portable SSD can be used across nearly any modern device without additional drivers.
Kingston’s Dual Portable SSD aims to provide a simple and flexible storage option for everyday users, mobile professionals, and creators who frequently move files between devices. With its cable-free design, dual ports, and fast transfer speeds, it offers a practical solution for anyone seeking portable and reliable storage.
