Kingston Introduces FURY Renegade G5 PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD for High-Performance Systems

Kingston Technology has announced the launch of its new PCIe 5.0 NVMe M.2 SSD under its performance-oriented Kingston FURY brand. The Kingston FURY Renegade G5 is designed for gamers, content creators, and power users who demand high-speed storage and efficient performance from their systems.

The new SSD is built around the latest PCIe Gen 5 x4 interface and makes use of 3D TLC NAND flash to deliver read speeds of up to 14,800 MB/s and write speeds up to 14,000 MB/s, depending on the capacity. Random read and write operations are rated at over 2 million IOPS, targeting workloads that require fast access to large amounts of data. These performance numbers place the FURY Renegade G5 among the fastest consumer SSDs currently available.

At the heart of the drive is the Silicon Motion SM2508 controller, manufactured on a 6 nm process. The controller is designed for efficiency and thermal performance, featuring a low-power DDR4 DRAM cache and an independent buck IC to manage power delivery. The SSD uses a 12-layer PCB layout to improve signal integrity, helping to maintain performance consistency during sustained workloads.

The Kingston FURY Renegade G5 is available in three capacities: 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB. All variants come in a standard M.2 2280 form factor, making them compatible with most modern desktop and laptop motherboards. The drive also supports Microsoft DirectStorage, which enables faster loading times in supported games by reducing CPU overhead.

Thermal management is a key feature in PCIe Gen 5 SSDs, and Kingston has focused on optimizing the FURY Renegade G5 for stable operation under load. While no dedicated heatsink is mentioned, the advanced controller and efficient design are intended to keep temperatures in check across various usage scenarios.

In terms of endurance, the drives are rated at 1.0 PBW (petabytes written) for the 1 TB model, 2.0 PBW for 2 TB, and 4.0 PBW for 4 TB. This makes them suitable for users who move large volumes of data regularly. Mean time between failures (MTBF) is rated at 2 million hours, aligning with expectations for drives in this segment.

The SSD is backed by a five-year limited warranty and includes free technical support from Kingston. Power consumption is also within reasonable limits, with the 4 TB variant drawing a maximum of 9.5 watts under load.

With the FURY Renegade G5, Kingston is expanding its high-performance SSD lineup at a time when PCIe Gen 5 adoption is starting to grow. As more motherboards and processors support the interface, drives like the G5 are positioned to take advantage of the increased bandwidth and offer faster performance for demanding users.

The Kingston FURY Renegade G5 is available now through authorized retailers and distributors. More information can be found on Kingston’s official website.
