Huawei is taking its unusual foldable phone design another step forward with the new Mate XT 2. The company’s latest flagship can fold twice, turning a 10.2-inch tablet-sized display into a smartphone that is roughly the size of a conventional 6.5-inch phone when closed. Along with the larger folding screen, Huawei has upgraded the chipset, cameras, battery, charging system, and durability of its second-generation dual-folding device.

The Huawei Mate XT 2 measures 12.3mm thick and weighs 299 grams when folded. Once opened, the phone is between 3.5mm and 4mm thick, depending on the measurement point. Its 10.2-inch folding display uses LTPO AMOLED technology and has a resolution of 3,184 × 2,232 pixels. The panel normally operates at up to 90Hz, while the highest-end version raises the refresh rate to 120Hz.
The outer 6.5-inch display is also an LTPO AMOLED panel with a 2,442 × 1,140 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Huawei is also offering a Privacy Display on the top configuration. When enabled, the feature narrows the viewing angles across the entire screen, making it harder for people beside the user to see what is being displayed. Unlike some implementations on competing phones, Huawei’s system does not allow privacy protection to be applied only to specific sections of the screen.

Under the hood, the Mate XT 2 uses Huawei’s new HiSilicon Kirin 9050 Pro chipset. Huawei claims the processor is capable of delivering 46 percent more performance than the previous Kirin 9030 Pro. The phone also packs a 5,600mAh battery, with support for 66W wired charging through USB-C and 50W wireless charging.
Photography is handled by a triple-camera system on the rear. The primary camera uses a 50MP sensor measuring 1/1.28 inches and has a variable aperture ranging from f/1.49 to f/4.0. It is paired with a 40MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera and a 50MP f/2.2 periscope telephoto camera offering 3.5x zoom. Huawei has placed an 8MP selfie camera on both the main and secondary displays.

The camera system also includes laser-assisted autofocus and a dedicated color sensor designed to improve color reproduction. These features are aimed at maintaining more accurate colors and faster focusing across different shooting conditions.
Huawei has also given the Mate XT 2 a level of protection that is uncommon among large foldable phones. The device carries an IP59 rating for protection against dust and water. It also includes an ECG feature that uses the phone’s metal frame as electrodes. Other hardware features include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, GPS, dual eSIM support, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
