Rockstar Games may have another reason to bring GTA 6 to PC sooner than expected. A new claim suggests the studio could be considering an earlier PC release as rising PlayStation 5 prices and potential console shortages make it harder for players to buy the hardware needed to play the game.
The claim comes from Video Games Chronicle journalist Andy Robinson, who reportedly discussed the possibility of a faster GTA 6 PC launch during a podcast. Robinson said there is some industry “noise” around an earlier PC release, although he did not provide a confirmed release date.
Rockstar has currently announced Grand Theft Auto 6 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with the game scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026. The company has not announced a Windows version yet, continuing a release strategy it has followed with several of its major titles.
The situation surrounding console prices could, however, change the equation for Rockstar. GTA 6 is expected to drive significant hardware sales, with some players likely upgrading or buying a current-generation console specifically for the game. If PS5 prices continue to increase or supply becomes limited, Rockstar could potentially reach a much larger audience by bringing GTA 6 to PC sooner.

Rockstar has traditionally launched its biggest games on consoles before releasing them on PC. GTA V arrived on PC considerably later than its original console launch, while Red Dead Redemption 2 followed with its PC version less than a year after its console debut.
An earlier GTA 6 PC launch would therefore be a significant change, but it would also make commercial sense. The PC gaming market is enormous, and a simultaneous or relatively close PC release could give Rockstar access to millions of additional players without requiring them to purchase a console.
There is also the technical side to consider. GTA 6 is being developed around current-generation console hardware, giving Rockstar a fixed set of platforms to optimize. A PC version would need to work across a much wider range of CPUs, GPUs, memory configurations, and storage systems.
That makes an early PC release difficult to confirm based on the current information. Rockstar could be exploring the option without having committed to a specific launch window.
For now, PC players should treat the report as a rumor rather than a release-date leak. Rockstar has not announced when GTA 6 will arrive on Windows, and the November 19, 2026 launch remains confirmed only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
If console prices and availability continue to create problems, however, an earlier GTA 6 PC release could become a more attractive option for Rockstar. Until the studio provides an official update, any 2027 PC release window or earlier launch claim should be considered speculation.
