When choosing a power supply for a gaming PC, performance and reliability are crucial, but affordability often becomes a barrier. Many high-performance power supplies come at a premium, making it difficult for budget-conscious gamers to invest in them. GAMEMAX addresses this issue with its GX Rampage series, offering products that combine robust performance and affordability. Built on the ATX 3.1 PCIe 5.1 standard with 80 Plus Platinum certification, these PSUs aim to provide mainstream gamers with reliable and cost-effective solutions.

GAMEMAX, a well-established brand from China, has earned recognition for offering a wide array of PC components, including cases, power supplies, cooling systems, and peripherals. While the brand may not have the same international presence as some competitors, it has grown a loyal following for its focus on value-driven products. The GX PRO series is a testament to this, targeting high-end PC builds while maintaining a focus on delivering top-tier performance at a more accessible price point.

The GX PRO series from GAMEMAX is available in 750W, 850W, 1050W, and 1250W, providing ample power for modern, demanding gaming setups. These power supplies support the latest ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 standards, ensuring compatibility with next-generation components. Featuring a fully modular design and offered in both black and white color schemes, the GX PRO series also allows users to match their power supply with their system aesthetics. For this review, we’ll focus on the GAMEMAX GX-1050 PRO BK, a versatile option that promises efficiency and stability in high-performance environments.

The GameMax GX-1050 PRO BK PSU comes in straightforward packaging, combining green and black colors, and arrives in a rectangular cardboard box. The front of the box displays the GameMax logo, and model name, and highlights key details like the 1050W power rating, ATX 3.1 certification, and PCIe 5.1 readiness. On the back, you’ll find more information about the power supply’s features and selling points.

Opening the box, the packaging immediately stands out for its secure design. The power supply itself is protected in a dedicated dust bag and encased in sturdy black shock-proof foam, ensuring it stays safe during transit. Cables and other accessories are neatly organized in a separate storage bag. Along with the power supply and cables, GameMax has thoughtfully included extras like a screwdriver, Velcro tape, four screws, and even a pair of gloves to assist with installation. There’s also a manual and additional screws to help mount the PSU into your case, which adds convenience to the setup process.

The GameMax GX-1050 PRO BK power supply delivers a premium look and feel, from its packaging to its sleek design. Available in both black and white, this review focuses on the black version. Its compact form factor makes it a solid choice for users with cases that don’t support the larger ATX models often seen in higher-wattage PSUs. The all-black body, combined with an integrated top cover and fan grille, creates a cohesive and polished appearance. The hexagonal grille design, with its large open spaces, improves airflow and boosts heat dissipation. Through the grille, the fan’s axis proudly displays the “GAMEMAX” logo, adding a touch of brand identity.

The GameMax GX-1050 PRO BK is equipped with a 135mm Silent FDB Turbo Axial Fan, designed for quiet and efficient cooling. The fluid dynamic bearing (FDB) minimizes friction, unlike traditional ball bearings, which helps reduce noise while extending the fan’s lifespan. Additionally, the power supply features a ZERO RPM mode that completely stops the fan when the load is below 20%, ensuring silent operation during light use. Its intelligent temperature control system further enhances quiet performance, making the unit nearly inaudible under lower workloads.

The GameMax GX-1050 PRO BK PSU is a fully modular power supply that comes equipped with a variety of connections, including a native 12VHPWR/12V-2*6 connector that supports up to 600W, making it more compatible with 40-series graphics cards compared to older dual 8-pin designs. In addition to the motherboard interface, it also includes 4x CPU/PCI-E connectors and 4x SATA/peripheral connectors, providing flexibility for various components. With support for the latest ATX3.1 and PCIe 5.1 standards, this power supply is designed to handle the sudden power demands of high-performance graphics cards while maintaining a stable power flow to ensure consistent system performance.

At the bottom of the interface panel, you’ll find a label with specifications and power ratings for the PSU. It’s capable of delivering up to 87.5A and 1050W through the 12V rails, providing ample power for demanding systems. Additionally, the PSU is equipped with a range of protection features, including safeguards against overvoltage, overcurrent, undervoltage, short circuits, overheating, and overloads. These built-in protections ensure stable power delivery and help prevent any potential damage to your system’s components.

On the left side, you’ll find the power socket, which supports 100V~240V AC input, while an independent switch is located at the top. The switch features a semi-recessed design, which helps prevent accidental presses during everyday use.

Both sides of the PSU are labeled with “GX1050” for easy identification, and both sides also feature an air outlet to improve heat dissipation, ensuring efficient cooling during operation.

The GameMax GX-1050 PRO BK PSU delivers a solid 1050W of power and carries the 80 PLUS Platinum certification, ensuring both high performance and energy efficiency. Inside, it features advanced components like a direct-connect modular backplate and a well-organized internal PCB. Key elements include a UP3861-controller DC-DC circuit, an MPS6924-controller for synchronous rectification, and an MPS 1213 programmable main control chip. It also incorporates PFC high-voltage filtering capacitors, a second-stage EMI circuit, an AC modular input assembly, and an independently developed low-loss FPC inductor, all working together to ensure stable and reliable power delivery.

The built-in module cables feature a flat, mainstream design and include 1x 24-pin MB cable, 4x 8-pin CPU/PCIe cables, 1x 12V-2×6 PCIe 5.1 cable, and 4x dedicated SATA interface cables. With 1050W of power, it easily meets the demands of modern hardware, while the individually designed 8-pin PCIe cables provide an added layer of safety when powering high-end graphics cards.

The image shows the latest 16-pin graphics card cable, officially known as “12VHPWR” (12V High Power Connector). It features a 12+4 pin configuration, with 12 standard power pins and four additional smaller signal lines at the top. These signal lines enable communication between the graphics card and the power supply, ensuring that if the power supply can’t handle the card’s power demands, the card will automatically reduce its power draw to prevent damage. However, this safety feature can also impact the overall performance of the graphics card.

We tested the PC’s power consumption in three different scenarios: standby, gaming, and Benchmark stress tests, using a Core i7-13700K paired with an ASUS ROG Strix RTX 3080 OC Edition. In standby mode, the system draws around 103W. During gaming, power usage jumps to roughly 470W, and under full Benchmark load, it peaks at 850W. If you upgrade the processor and graphics card in the future, power consumption could increase by up to 200W, but a 1050W-rated ATX3.1 power supply will easily manage the load.
