GALAX Expands Modular “GeForce RTX 50-Series Boomstar” Lineup With New Mirror Finish Backplate

GALAX appears to be expanding its modular “Boomstar” graphics card lineup with a new backplate design, based on recently shared promotional images. The Boomstar series, part of the GeForce RTX 50-series family, includes region-specific designs that are typically released in China and often remain under the radar outside Asia. However, the brand’s distinctive approach to modular GPU design is starting to draw international attention.

The Boomstar lineup currently includes two prominent aesthetic variants—LUNA in white and NOX in black. Both offer support for a fully modular shroud and cooling fan system, which is secured magnetically. Users can detach or reattach these components without tools, allowing for easier customization or maintenance. This level of modularity is still uncommon in the graphics card market, giving GALAX an interesting niche.

The latest addition to the Boomstar design appears to be a reflective mirror-style backplate, shown off in white variants in the most recent renders. These surfaced online and were initially highlighted by VideoCardz. GALAX has yet to officially confirm all the details or show a black version with the same backplate design, but it’s likely that a NOX version is also planned, based on past patterns.

Currently, Boomstar models are available for GeForce RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti, and RTX 5070 GPUs. While these SKUs don’t represent NVIDIA’s top-tier offerings, they still sit comfortably in the high-performance segment of the Blackwell GPU architecture lineup.

Due to regulatory restrictions and regional product segmentation, NVIDIA’s RTX 5090—its most powerful consumer GPU—is not available in China. Instead, the market has received a toned-down version called the GeForce RTX 5090D. Reports suggest that even this model is being phased out, with a further downgrade on the way, though specifics remain unclear.

On the lower end of the spectrum, it looks like GALAX is preparing a GeForce RTX 5060 Ti version for the Boomstar series. If released, it would bring the modular features of the LUNA and NOX variants to a broader audience at a more accessible price point.

GALAX has a history of pushing custom GPU designs beyond what many mainstream brands offer. Its Hall of Fame (HOF) series has broken performance records in the past, particularly among extreme overclockers. While the Boomstar brand doesn’t focus on maximum performance in the same way, it does emphasize user customization and visual design—two areas where it is clearly trying to stand out in an increasingly competitive market.

With the new mirror backplate on the horizon and more GPU models likely joining the Boomstar lineup, GALAX seems to be doubling down on its modular concept. Whether these cards will eventually launch outside of China remains to be seen.
