Frostliner: New Survival City-Builder on Rails Hits 10,000 Wishlists Days After Reveal

Independent game developer Nathan Gane has officially revealed Frostliner, a narrative-driven survival city-builder set aboard a massive train traveling through the frozen remnants of a post-apocalyptic world. Just days after its debut trailer went live, the game has already gained traction on Steam, crossing 10,000 wishlists—a notable milestone for a solo-developed title.

Set in the aftermath of a global disaster that fractured the moon and led to the collapse of civilization, Frostliner tasks players with managing a heavily fortified locomotive built to withstand deadly cold. Players will assume command of the train, known as the Frostliner, guiding it across an icy wasteland where each stop presents critical decisions about survival.

The core gameplay revolves around building and expanding the Frostliner by adding new carriages that support life on board. These include housing, food production, medical bays, and research labs. Placement matters, as facilities gain productivity bonuses when strategically placed next to each other. As players move forward, they will unlock new technologies to improve efficiency and survivability.

Each stop along the journey is a high-risk opportunity. While halted, players must send crews to scavenge for fuel, supplies, and recruit new survivors. However, stopping the train also means losing heat, turning every decision into a race against time. Adding to the challenge, players must defend against raiders and other threats. The Frostliner can be equipped with defensive systems or used to outrun danger by pushing the engine to its limits.

In a statement, Gane expressed appreciation for the early interest the game has received: “I never imagined I’d reach 10,000 wishlists so quickly. Seeing the response from the community has encouraged me to look into expanding the development team.”

Frostliner is currently in development for PC, Linux, and Steam Deck. The release is planned for 2026, and the game is available to wishlist now on Steam. Interested players can follow updates through the official Steam page to stay informed as development progresses.
