Denuvo’s Latest DRM Update Reportedly Blocks Popular PC Game’s Hypervisor Bypass

Denuvo may have found a way to counter one of the most widely used methods for bypassing its PC Game protection, as reports suggest a hypervisor-based technique used across more than 60 PC Games no longer works as expected. The change was reportedly spotted with Star Wars: Galactic Racer, raising questions about whether Irdeto has updated its anti-tamper technology to address the workaround.

The report comes shortly after Star Wars: Galactic Racer launched on October 6, 2026. According to reports, the game has resisted the existing hypervisor bypass, which had become an alternative to traditional Denuvo cracks. However, neither Irdeto nor the game’s publisher has publicly confirmed the precise technical changes, so the extent of the reported fix remains unclear.

Unlike conventional cracks that modify game files or remove parts of the DRM, a hypervisor-based bypass uses a virtualization layer to interfere with checks performed by the protection system. The technique attracted attention because it could be adapted to multiple Denuvo-protected games, reducing the need to develop a separate workaround for every release.

The reported development could give Denuvo an advantage in protecting new PC games during their launch windows. Publishers use the technology to make unauthorized copies harder to distribute, particularly during the period when sales are often strongest. If the reported countermeasure can be applied across multiple titles, it could also affect games that previously relied on the same bypass technique.

However, this does not mean that Denuvo has permanently stopped game cracking. A fix targeting one method can encourage researchers to investigate other approaches, and the long-running competition between DRM developers and cracking groups is unlikely to end with a single update.

The timing is also notable because DenuvOwO, a group associated with popularizing the hypervisor-based bypass, reportedly disbanded in late September. The development followed legal pressure surrounding Denuvo circumvention, although the group’s reported shutdown does not necessarily prevent others from exploring similar techniques.

For now, the reported change involving Star Wars: Galactic Racer suggests that Denuvo’s protection may be evolving to counter existing workarounds. Until the company confirms the update or independent technical testing establishes its scope, however, claims that the bypass has been blocked across more than 60 games should be treated with caution.
