CHERRY has introduced three new mechanical keyboard switches, expanding its MX lineup with the MX ILLUMA RED, MX ILLUMA BROWN and MX EMERALD REEF. The new models target different typing preferences, bringing improved key stability, enhanced RGB lighting, and quieter operation. CHERRY has also launched the MX EXPERIENCE BOX 2ND EDITION, which includes samples of 10 switches so users can compare their typing feel and sound before choosing a set for their keyboard.

The MX ILLUMA RED is a linear switch with a 45 cN actuation force, while the MX ILLUMA BROWN offers tactile feedback with a force of 55 cN. Both switches use CHERRY’s Gold Crosspoint technology and are rated for more than 100 million keystrokes. A redesigned housing and refined internal guidance system help reduce unwanted movement and typing noise, while integrated lenses improve RGB light distribution for brighter, more even illumination.
The MX EMERALD REEF is designed for users who prefer tactile feedback but want to reduce keyboard noise. It combines a distinct tactile bump with noise-dampening features that limit sound when keys are pressed and released. An improved stem guidance system also helps minimise wobble. The switch features a turquoise housing, light blue base and neon green stem, along with RGB lighting support. It has an actuation force of 41 cN, a 2.0 mm actuation point and a rated lifespan of more than 50 million keystrokes.

All three switches are available in packs of 36. Meanwhile, the MX EXPERIENCE BOX 2ND EDITION includes the MX EMERALD REEF, MX ILLUMA RED, MX ILLUMA BROWN, MX PETAL, MX BLOSSOM, MX2A HONEY, MX FALCON, MX NORTHERN LIGHT, MX2A BLACK and MX2A SILENT RED. All 10 samples feature a 5-pin design and support compatible hot-swap keyboards, allowing users to test different switches without soldering.
Gunnar Schreck, Head of Product Management at CHERRY, said the keyboard community is paying closer attention to how switches feel, sound, and look. He explained that the new models offer options for smoother keystrokes, quieter tactile feedback and improved RGB effects, while the experience box helps users find a switch that matches their preferences.

CHERRY has not announced pricing or availability details in the supplied information. The new MX switches give mechanical keyboard users more options for custom builds, whether they prefer linear keystrokes, tactile feedback, or quieter typing.
