Bungie Unveils Destiny 2: Renegades Expansion, Launching December 2, 2025

Bungie has officially revealed Destiny 2: Renegades, the next expansion in the franchise, launching on December 2, 2025. Continuing the Fate Saga, the story follows Guardians who join the Drifter and his crew to confront the Cabal’s Barant Imperium, a new enemy faction suspected of ties to the Nine. This expansion places players in the role of renegades working beyond the Vanguard’s command, expanding the narrative with new allies and adversaries.

A ViDoc titled Infiltrating the Lawless Frontier showcased upcoming content. Bungie highlighted the new Lawless Frontier activity, Tharsis Outpost as a social hub, and the Notoriety progression system that grants access to gear through Syndicate factions. A new weapon archetype, the Blaster, will also debut, offering energy-based combat with heat management mechanics.

The Lawless Frontier introduces contract-based missions across three planets and six maps influenced by classic sci-fi settings. Players will take on smuggling, bounty hunting, and sabotage activities, either solo or in fireteams. A new feature, Invasion, allows Guardians to enter other players’ missions, creating higher stakes and increased rewards.

Bungie confirmed the Year of Prophecy Ultimate Edition, which includes both The Edge of Fate and Renegades campaigns, the Desert Perpetual raid, and a new dungeon. Pre-order bonuses include the Renegade Leader Exotic ship, the Starside Introduction emblem, the Exotic Sniper Rifle New Land Beyond, and cosmetic bundles. Players with standard editions can upgrade to gain the full set of content.

Coinciding with today’s announcement, Bungie launched Ash & Iron, the first Year of Prophecy update. Guardians return to the Plaguelands in the new Reclaim Fireteam Ops activity, facing Vex and Cabal while recovering Golden Age technology.

The Rewards Pass for The Edge of Fate has also been updated, offering 110 ranks of progression with rewards including a Strand Exotic Pulse Rifle, an armor ornament set, and a new shader.

Bungie detailed its content schedule leading into the expansion:

  • September 27: The Desert Perpetual Epic Raid launches with new encounters and rewards.
  • October 7: A new Exotic mission arrives, featuring Maya Sundaresh’s research within a Warmind bunker.
  • October 21: The annual Festival of the Lost returns, featuring masks, holofoils, and themed loot.
  • November 11 – December 1: Call to Arms event runs across Portal activities with exclusive cosmetics and seasonal gear.

Destiny 2: Renegades releases December 2, 2025, bringing a major expansion of content, systems, and narrative to Bungie’s ongoing Year of Prophecy.
