Battlefield Studios has confirmed that the first season of Battlefield 6 and Battlefield REDSEC will be extended, moving the start of Season 2 to February 17. The Season 1 extension update is scheduled for release on January 20 and will introduce additional content, challenges, and limited-time events during the extended period.
According to the studio, the revised schedule is intended to give the development team more time to work on Season 2 content. This decision follows player feedback received since the launch of Season 1, with the extra development window being used to refine upcoming features and balance changes.

During the extended season, players will continue progressing through the existing Season 1 Battle Pass. Alongside this, Battlefield Studios is introducing a new Frostfire Bonus Path, which will become available on January 27. The Bonus Path adds a separate progression track that can be completed at the same time as the current Battle Pass, without requiring players to choose between paths.
The Frostfire Bonus Path includes both free and premium rewards. Free-tier rewards feature a Hardware XP Boost, a Vehicle Skin, and player card customization items. Players who own the Season 1 Battle Pass will gain access to premium rewards, which include a new Weapon Package, a Career XP Boost, a Soldier Skin, and additional cosmetic items.

Progression through the Frostfire Bonus Path is tied entirely to Weekly Challenges. Each tier requires 10 Bonus Path Points to unlock, with a total of 110 points needed to complete the full track. Unlike previous Bonus Paths, there are no Bonus Challenges associated with this release, meaning all progress is earned through the weekly challenge system.
In addition to the Frostfire content, Battlefield Studios has announced themed events tied to Valentine’s Day later in the update period. These will include a new set of Daily Login Rewards and several Double XP Weekends, giving players more opportunities to earn experience and unlock progression rewards.

The Season 1 extension update will also deliver a range of gameplay updates and fixes. While Battlefield Studios has not detailed these changes in the announcement, full patch notes and technical updates are available through the “Game Updates” section on the official Battlefield website.
With the extended timeline, Battlefield Studios aims to maintain player engagement through new challenges and rewards while preparing Season 2 for its revised launch date in mid-February.
