Devolver Digital, along with developers Gabe Cuzzillo, Maxi Boch, and Bennett Foddy, has officially launched Baby Steps, a physics-driven walking simulator, now available on PC (Steam) and PlayStation 5 for $19.99.
The game introduces players to Nate, an unemployed character who discovers a new ability: walking. Unlike traditional movement systems, Baby Steps relies on a fully simulated physics-based approach, requiring players to carefully guide each step. The result is a mix of humor, challenge, and slow-paced exploration.

Baby Steps offers a mountain-sized journey where progress is determined by how well players manage Nate’s balance. Inspired by the unconventional mechanics of QWOP and Getting Over It, the game emphasizes persistence and precision.
Key features include:
- Physics-based walking mechanics where every step matters
- Dynamic soundtrack built from over 400 beats and layers
- Extended mountain trek allowing exploration at a chosen pace
- Onesie soilage system that dynamically reacts to gameplay
- Non-collectible hats included as a lighthearted touch
The game world features scenic landscapes, wildlife encounters, and small moments that unfold gradually as Nate advances.

The team behind Baby Steps has a history of developing unconventional titles that test player patience and creativity. Bennett Foddy’s QWOP became a viral hit for its intentionally difficult running mechanics, while Getting Over It built a reputation for its punishing climbing system. Gabe Cuzzillo previously created Ape Out, a fast-paced action game noted for its experimental design and music integration.
With Baby Steps, the developers shift focus from speed and intensity to slow, deliberate motion, offering a different kind of challenge. Baby Steps is now available digitally on Steam and PlayStation 5 for $19.99.
