Avatar Legends The Fighting Game Release Date Set for July 2 With Cross-Play Across All Platforms

Gameplay Group International and PM Studios have announced a global publishing partnership for AVATAR LEGENDS: The Fighting Game, created in collaboration with Nickelodeon Animation Studios. The 1v1 fighting title is scheduled to launch on July 2 at a price of $29.99 USD for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.

The announcement was made during the EVO Awards, placing the project in front of the competitive fighting game audience ahead of release. Pre-orders are already available on Steam, while console players can add the game to their wishlist on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S storefronts.

The game is set in the universe of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, bringing together recognizable locations and characters from both series. Players will use elemental bending abilities based on water, earth, fire, and air, each translated into different combat styles designed around mobility, timing, and spacing. The project focuses on creating a fighting system that is accessible for newcomers while offering enough mechanical depth for competitive players interested in learning matchups and advanced strategies.

According to Gameplay Group International Founder and Chief Creative Officer Victor Lugo, the team focused on designing a responsive system that supports player control and consistency during matches. The collaboration brings together Gameplay Group International’s experience in fighting game design and PM Studios’ publishing support to deliver a competitive product aimed at both fans of the franchise and players familiar with the genre.

At launch, the roster will include 12 fighters, with additional characters planned as part of a post-launch seasonal roadmap. The game introduces a support-based combat mechanic where assist characters can influence playstyles and extend combo options. Another gameplay system, referred to as Flow, emphasizes movement and positioning, allowing players to build momentum through precise timing and spacing during matches.

The title also includes multiple gameplay modes, including a single-player Story Mode featuring an original narrative set within the established canon. Additional modes include Arcade Mode, Training Mode, Combo Trials, Ranked matches, Casual online play, and player lobbies. A Gallery Mode will feature artwork and visual material connected to the animated series, offering additional content for long-time fans.

Online play is supported by rollback netcode and full cross-play functionality, allowing players across all supported platforms to compete in shared matchmaking pools. These features aim to provide consistent match performance regardless of hardware platform. Visual presentation is handled through hand-drawn 2D animation designed to reflect the art style associated with the original television series.

AVATAR LEGENDS: The Fighting Game will launch on July 2 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam at a price of $29.99 USD. Pre-orders are currently live on Steam, with wishlist availability on console platforms ahead of release.
