ASUS ROG Crosshair 2006 Combines Retro Design With Next-Gen AM5 Power

ASUS Republic of Gamers has introduced the ROG Crosshair 2006 motherboard, a special edition model that blends a nostalgic retro design approach with the latest AM5 platform technology. Positioned as a thematic cousin to the Crosshair X870E Dark Hero, this new motherboard pays tribute to the early days of the ROG brand while delivering hardware capabilities aimed at high-end gaming systems built around AMD Ryzen 9000 series processors.

The design direction of the Crosshair 2006 focuses on revisiting the visual identity of the original ROG motherboards from two decades ago. The color accents and styling elements reflect that early era of enthusiast PC hardware, but the implementation remains modern and refined. One of the most noticeable additions is a 2-inch OLED display placed near the primary M.2 slot. This display provides live system information such as CPU clock speeds, temperatures, and fan activity. It can also be customized with user-defined images or animations, adding a personal touch to system builds.

Under the surface, the motherboard is built for sustained performance and overclocking capability. It features a high-end power delivery system with a 20+2+2 phase design rated at 110A per stage, supported by ProCool II connectors, MicroFine alloy chokes, and 10K black metallic capacitors. These components are paired with large heatsinks integrated into the I/O cover to help maintain thermal stability under heavy workloads.

Memory performance has also been enhanced with improved DDR5 support, including PCB optimizations such as server-grade low-etch manufacturing processes and back drilling techniques. ASUS has also integrated its NitroPath DRAM technology to improve signal integrity and memory overclocking headroom, making the board suitable for high-frequency DDR5 kits.

For expansion, the ROG Crosshair 2006 includes dual PCIe 5.0 x16 slots, offering full support for next-generation graphics cards. Storage options are equally robust, with five M.2 slots available, including two PCIe 5.0 lanes for the fastest NVMe drives. ASUS has also refined the installation process with updated M.2 Q-Latch, Q-Release, and Q-Slide mechanisms to simplify SSD mounting.

Connectivity options are extensive, featuring WiFi 7 support alongside both 10G and 5G Ethernet ports for wired networking. USB connectivity includes dual USB4 ports for high-speed peripherals, displays, and external storage, along with a front-panel USB Type-C header supporting Quick Charge 4+ up to 60W. Additional internal headers provide flexibility for advanced cooling setups and system expansions.

The motherboard also supports ASUS’s AIO Q-Connector system, designed to simplify cable management for liquid cooling setups. Compatible AIO coolers can connect directly without traditional cable routing between the radiator and motherboard, reducing clutter and making installation more efficient.

With its combination of retro-inspired aesthetics and modern high-performance engineering, the ASUS ROG Crosshair 2006 targets enthusiasts who want both visual identity and cutting-edge features in a single platform.
