ANBERNIC RG SP Retro Handheld Pre-Orders Open Tomorrow Starting at $65

ANBERNIC has officially announced the RG SP, a new retro gaming handheld that combines a compact metal design with support for a wide range of classic gaming systems. The company confirmed that US pre-orders will begin tomorrow, with a starting price of $65. While the Chinese price has not been confirmed, it is expected to be similar to the US launch price.

The new handheld is available in four color options: Platinum Silver, Pearl Blue, Graphite Black, and Pearl Pink. Unlike many entry-level retro handhelds that use plastic shells, the RG SP features a metal construction, giving the device a more durable feel while maintaining its portable form factor.

The front of the device houses a 3.4-inch IPS display with a 720 × 480 resolution. The higher-resolution screen supports 3x pixel-per-view mode, allowing compatible Game Boy Advance games to appear sharper and more detailed. ANBERNIC showcased several popular GBA titles that benefit from this feature, including Fire Emblem, The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, Pokémon Emerald, and Golden Sun: The Lost Age.

Powering the RG SP is the Allwinner H700 processor, paired with 1GB of RAM. This hardware is designed to handle a broad range of retro gaming platforms, making the handheld suitable for players looking to revisit classic titles across multiple generations.

In addition to Game Boy Advance, the RG SP supports emulation for several other systems, including:

  • Game Boy (GB)
  • Game Boy Color (GBC)
  • PlayStation Portable (PSP)
  • PlayStation 1 (PS1)
  • Nintendo 64 (N64)
  • Sega Saturn

Beyond retro game emulation, ANBERNIC has added several features that expand the handheld’s capabilities. The RG SP supports PC game streaming, allowing users to play compatible games from their computers on the portable device. It also includes Netplay local multiplayer support, making multiplayer sessions easier on supported games.

The handheld can also connect to Bluetooth controllers, providing additional flexibility for players who prefer external gamepads during gameplay or while using the device in different setups.

Battery life comes from a 3,000mAh battery, which ANBERNIC rates for up to six hours of continuous gameplay, depending on the games being played and system settings. This should provide enough runtime for extended gaming sessions away from a charger.
