Anbernic has confirmed the launch date and pricing for the RG 55G1, its new Android gaming handheld and the company’s first portable console powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The device will officially go on sale on August 31, with prices starting at $149.99 before a limited-time launch discount. The RG 55G1 has a design similar to the Nintendo Switch Lite, but its hardware and software are aimed at Android gaming, emulation, and game streaming rather than serving as a direct replacement for Nintendo’s handheld.
The RG 55G1 will be available in two memory configurations. The base model combines 4GB of RAM with 64GB of internal storage, while the higher-end version comes with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Both models include a microSD card slot, and Anbernic will also sell the handheld with optional 128GB or 256GB cards. For the first three days after launch, buyers will receive a $10 discount.

The hardware is built around Qualcomm’s Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 gaming platform with an Adreno A12 GPU. This makes the RG 55G1 different from many of Anbernic’s previous handhelds, which have typically used processors from Rockchip, Unisoc, and other vendors. The Snapdragon platform is designed for Android gaming handhelds and can also be used for emulation and game streaming.
Anbernic has equipped the RG 55G1 with a 5.5-inch IPS touchscreen running at 1920 × 1080 resolution. The handheld measures 208 × 86 × 17mm and weighs 339 grams. Its control layout includes symmetrical Hall Effect joysticks with RGB lighting rings, Hall Effect triggers, and microswitch shoulder buttons. There are also front-facing stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a microphone, and an active cooling fan.
Power comes from a 6,000mAh battery with support for 18W wired charging through USB-C. Anbernic claims up to eight hours of battery life, although actual runtime will vary depending on the games and settings being used. The handheld runs Android 14 and uses Anbernic’s RG Home interface, giving users access to Android applications, emulators, and game-streaming options.
The Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 should make the RG 55G1 capable of handling a wide range of older consoles, while some more demanding systems and lighter PC games can be accessed through applications such as GameNative and GameHub. Anbernic has also demonstrated games from platforms including PS Vita, Wii, Nintendo 3DS, PSP, and PS2 on the device. However, the RG 55G1 should not be viewed as a full Nintendo Switch replacement. Graphically demanding Switch games remain beyond the intended performance level of this class of hardware.
The RG 55G1 will be sold in Black, Indigo, and Retro Gray. The Retro Gray model uses colored ABXY buttons, while the other versions have a more uniform appearance. Anbernic will also offer a carrying case for $9.99, although the handheld itself comes with only a USB charging cable in the box.
With a $149.99 starting price, a Snapdragon G1 Gen 2 processor, a 1080p display, Hall Effect controls and a 6,000mAh battery, the Anbernic RG 55G1 enters a competitive part of the Android handheld market. The 8GB model is particularly close in price to the base version at $174.99, which could make it the more interesting configuration for buyers who plan to use the device for emulation and Android gaming. The Anbernic RG 55G1 will be available starting August 31.
