Hot on the heels of recent high-profile Chinese game announcements, A Whisper of Fall: Jinyiwei has been officially introduced as a new action role-playing title from Chengdu Cangmo Information Technology Co., Ltd. The project is part of PlayStation’s China Hero Program and is currently planned for release on PlayStation 5 and PC. Store listings for the PC version are already available on both Steam and the Epic Games Store, signaling an active development phase.
The game follows a similar genre path to titles such as Black Myth: Wukong, Phantom Blade Zero, and GeniGods: Nezha, placing a strong focus on martial arts-driven combat and narrative. Where A Whisper of Fall: Jinyiwei sets itself apart is its historical backdrop. The story takes place during the Ming Dynasty, between 1368 and 1644, a period marked by political unrest and the gradual decline of imperial authority. This setting aligns it with other upcoming projects like Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, further highlighting the industry’s growing interest in this era.
Players assume the role of an ordinary boatman whose life is altered by an unexpected incident. This event forces him to infiltrate the Jinyiwei, the Imperial Guard of the Ming Dynasty, not as a loyal soldier but as an undercover agent connected to the black market. While serving the Imperial Guard Bureau and carrying out official missions, the protagonist must also fulfill secret tasks assigned by criminal networks, creating constant tension between duty and survival.

As the investigation progresses, the narrative expands into a larger conspiracy involving multiple factions. To navigate this complex web, the protagonist relies on a special deduction ability that allows him to anticipate future developments. This mechanic is closely tied to gameplay systems centered on investigation and law enforcement. Players can interrogate suspects multiple times, analyze situations quickly, and identify the true culprit behind each case, leading to arrests and imprisonment within the Jinyiwei structure.
Combat and movement play an equally important role. As both a Jinyiwei agent and a knight-errant figure, the protagonist can move across walls, leap between rooftops, and maneuver through environments with agility. Encounters are designed around close-range martial arts combat, reflecting traditional wuxia-inspired action. According to the development team, the goal is to portray not only combat but also the relationships, rivalries, and personal conflicts that define the martial arts world.

At present, A Whisper of Fall: Jinyiwei does not have a confirmed release window. However, with its inclusion in the China Hero Program and its presence on major PC storefronts, more updates are expected as development continues. Further details are likely to emerge in the coming months.
