iQOO G1 Gaming Controller Launches With Hall Effect Sticks and Interchangeable Grips for $75

iQOO has launched the G1, a new mobile gaming controller designed for smartphones and tablets, with Hall effect joysticks, customizable physical controls, and a telescopic design. Priced at 499 yuan (approximately $75), the controller focuses on durability and input customization, although several of its software features are restricted to a limited selection of iQOO devices.

The iQOO G1 features an adjustable telescopic structure that extends up to 211mm, allowing it to accommodate compatible smartphones and smaller tablets. It comes with two sets of interchangeable magnetic grips, giving users the option of compact grips for portability or larger grips for a more traditional console controller feel. The controller weighs 176.5 grams with the larger grips installed and includes silicone padding to protect connected devices and prevent them from moving during gameplay.

For its primary controls, iQOO has equipped the G1 with Hall effect joysticks and linear triggers. The magnetic sensing technology used in the joysticks helps reduce the mechanical wear associated with traditional potentiometer-based sticks, potentially lowering the risk of stick drift over extended use. iQOO rates the joysticks for up to 5 million uses and includes three interchangeable thumbstick cap options.

The remaining controls include micro-switch ABXY buttons, a tactile D-pad, and two additional programmable shoulder buttons labeled L4 and R4. These extra buttons allow players to map different in-game actions, providing additional control without requiring them to move their thumbs away from the joysticks.

Unlike wireless mobile controllers, the G1 connects directly through USB-C, eliminating Bluetooth pairing and the potential latency associated with wireless connections. It does not have an internal battery and instead draws power from the connected smartphone or tablet. However, iQOO has included support for 15W pass-through charging, allowing users to connect a charger through the controller while continuing to play.

Software compatibility is a more restrictive part of the package. The G1 requires iQOO Game Space and Game Magic Box to access its advanced customization options, including shoulder button mapping, joystick dead-zone adjustments, and rapid-fire settings. At launch, official support is limited to four devices: the iQOO 16, iQOO Neo 12, iQOO Pad Ultra, and 8.8-inch iQOO Pad Pro, all running OriginOS 7 or later.

The iQOO G1 is available in a single Cool Black color option and carries a price tag of 499 yuan. Its Hall effect joysticks, interchangeable grips, and programmable buttons give it a feature set aimed at mobile gaming enthusiasts, but the limited device compatibility means users will need to check software support before considering it for their setup.
