Rockstar Games‘ Grand Theft Auto 6 has reportedly surpassed 6.45 million digital pre-orders worldwide, generating an estimated $630 million in revenue ahead of launch. According to Sensor Tower data reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the figures were recorded as of October 18 and exclude returns. PlayStation accounts for the majority of estimated pre-orders, with Xbox representing the remaining share.
Sensor Tower estimates that GTA 6 has received approximately 4.80 million digital pre-orders on PlayStation and 1.66 million on Xbox. That puts the platform split at around 74% for Sony’s console and 26% for Microsoft’s platform. Estimated revenue follows the same pattern, with PlayStation accounting for $468 million and Xbox contributing $162 million.

Rockstar Games and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, have not officially confirmed these numbers. They are third-party estimates covering digital pre-orders, so they don’t include physical pre-orders in the worldwide totals.
The report also compares GTA 6’s US pre-order performance with other major releases over the past six years. According to Sensor Tower’s analysis, GTA 6 is reportedly 148% ahead of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, which previously led the comparison. Other games included in the analysis are Hogwarts Legacy, Diablo IV, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Starfield, God of War Ragnarök, and Ghost of Tsushima.
Sensor Tower also tracks the premium $100 edition of GTA 6 separately, with the reported pre-order trajectory remaining well ahead of the other games in the comparison. However, this historical analysis covers the US market and the titles tracked by the research firm, rather than every game released during the period.

Earlier projections from Piper Sandler suggested that GTA 6 could sell more than 48 million copies during its launch week. That figure remains a forecast, not a confirmed sales target or result. If the projection proves accurate, Rockstar’s next Grand Theft Auto game could rank among the biggest entertainment launches ever recorded.
Although Rockstar has not publicly confirmed the game’s total development budget, GTA 6 is expected to be a major commercial release for Take-Two. The reported pre-order figures suggest considerable demand ahead of launch, but actual sales, physical purchases, and long-term revenue will determine the game’s overall commercial performance.
