Ayaneo has started taking orders for the Konkr Pocket Block, giving retro gaming fans another small Android handheld to consider at a launch price of just $79. The vertical handheld was first shown in May under Ayaneo’s budget-focused Konkr brand and is now available in two configurations, with shipping scheduled to begin toward the end of October.
The entry-level Konkr Pocket Block comes with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage and normally costs $89. A higher configuration with 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage is priced at $109. Ayaneo is offering a limited-time $10 early bird discount, bringing the prices down to $79 and $99, respectively.
The handheld features a 3.33-inch LCD with a 4:3 aspect ratio and 960 x 720 resolution. That screen format fits the Pocket Block’s focus on older games, particularly systems that were originally designed around 4:3 displays. Storage can also be expanded through the built-in microSD card slot.
Powering the Konkr Pocket Block is MediaTek’s Helio G85, a budget-oriented mobile processor paired with either 2 GB or 3 GB of RAM. The chip is not designed for demanding modern gaming, but the hardware should make more sense for older console emulation. PlayStation 1-era titles and many PSP games are closer to the type of workloads the Pocket Block is expected to handle, while more demanding PlayStation 2 and GameCube emulation could prove much more difficult.
The Pocket Block runs Android 12 and uses a fanless cooling system. Instead of adding an active cooling fan, Ayaneo has used a heat spreader to manage the processor’s heat output. This keeps the design compact and avoids fan noise, although sustained performance will depend on how effectively the passive cooling system handles longer gaming sessions.
A 3,500 mAh battery powers the handheld, while the design is available in several finishes depending on the configuration. The 2 GB model appears to be offered only in Gray, while the 3 GB version adds Cube Purple and a translucent Atoms White option.
Ayaneo previously described the Konkr Pocket Block as the world’s first AI handheld when it introduced the device in May. However, the company has not yet provided detailed information about the AI features, leaving that part of the announcement unclear for now.
The Konkr Pocket Block is also arriving alongside another device from the same budget-focused lineup. Ayaneo recently unveiled and launched the Konkr Pocket Advance, which takes inspiration from the classic Game Boy Advance design. For buyers interested in compact Android handhelds, the Pocket Block’s low launch price and vertical form factor could make it an interesting option for retro-focused gaming.
