MediaTek is taking its flagship smartphone chipsets to the 2nm era with the new Dimensity 9600 Pro, combining a 4.55GHz CPU, dual-NPU architecture, faster graphics, and support for LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 storage. The company says the new chip is designed to deliver higher performance while cutting power consumption across CPU, AI, and gaming workloads.
The Dimensity 9600 Pro is built around a 2+3+3 All Big Core CPU configuration. At the top of the stack are two C2-Ultra cores clocked at up to 4.55GHz, joined by three C2-Pro cores reaching 4.35GHz and another three C2-Pro cores running at 3.1GHz. MediaTek claims up to 17% higher single-core performance and up to 15% higher multicore performance compared with the previous generation.
Power efficiency is another major focus. The company claims that the new CPU design can reduce multicore power consumption by as much as 61%, which could help flagship phones maintain performance for longer during demanding workloads.


AI is also at the center of the new platform. MediaTek’s dual-NPU architecture and Agentic AI Engine are designed to process more AI workloads directly on the smartphone instead of relying on cloud services. The second-generation Super Efficient NPU reportedly cuts power consumption by 40% for always-on AI tasks, while the NPU 1090 delivers 51% higher LLM prefill performance and 55% higher token generation per watt.
The chipset can handle on-device AI models with up to 30 billion parameters. MediaTek says this can enable features such as analyzing information stored on a phone, providing proactive assistance, and generating responses based on a user’s preferences.
The company is also combining CPU and NPU resources through its AI Computing Fusion Architecture. A 34.5MB cache, LPDDR6 memory support, and UFS 5.0 storage give the platform a faster foundation for AI workloads and high-performance applications.

Gaming receives a major graphics upgrade through the G2-Ultra NX GPU. MediaTek claims up to 27% higher peak GPU performance, while power consumption at peak performance drops by up to 24%. Ray tracing performance is also up by 18%, with supported games capable of reaching up to 185 FPS. The new Dimensity Neural Graphics Architecture combines GPU and AI processing, while HyperEngine handles additional game optimizations.
Photography and video are getting similar attention. The Dimensity 9600 Pro features the Imagiq 1290 ISP and a new AI Imaging Fusion Architecture that combines ISP and NPU processing. The platform supports NPU-powered 60 FPS motion capture and native 4K 240 FPS ultra-slow-motion video. It also adds 4K60 AI True Color Tone, 4K120 cinematic log recording, and 17EV imaging.
MediaTek has also announced the Dimensity 9600M alongside the Pro model. The 9600M is aimed at bringing several of the company’s newer AI, gaming, imaging, and efficiency technologies to a wider range of smartphones. It includes the Agentic AI Engine and Dimensity Scheduling Engine, while its NPU is designed for always-on perception and AI-enhanced imaging.
The first smartphones powered by the Dimensity 9600 Pro and Dimensity 9600M are expected to launch in Q4 2026. The 2nm manufacturing process, 4.55GHz CPU, LPDDR6 and UFS 5.0 support, and stronger on-device AI capabilities put the Dimensity 9600 Pro in direct competition for the next generation of flagship Android smartphones.
