Retroid Pocket Duo and Duo Lite Revealed With Dual OLED/LCD Screens and Android 16

Retroid is taking a different approach to Android gaming handhelds with its new Pocket Duo and Pocket Duo Lite, two devices that put dual displays into a portable gaming system. The company has now revealed the core specifications for both models, with the Pocket Duo positioned as the more powerful version and the Duo Lite targeting users who want the same dual-screen concept at a lower price.

The Retroid Pocket Duo is built around Qualcomm’s Q-7790 processor and runs Android 16. Its dual-screen setup is the main feature, combining a 5.5-inch 16:9 OLED display on the upper half with a smaller 4.5-inch 4:3 OLED panel underneath. Both displays support a 120Hz refresh rate, giving the Duo a configuration that should be well suited to Android games and emulation workloads where a higher refresh rate can make menus, scrolling, and supported games feel smoother.

Retroid has also designed the upper display to support 180-degree free hovering. This allows the top half of the handheld to remain at different angles rather than being limited to a single open position. The company has also confirmed that the Duo uses protruding triggers, giving the controls a different physical design from the Duo Lite.

The Pocket Duo is not simply a dual-screen Android tablet in a handheld shell. Retroid has included a dedicated control layout designed around gaming, while the dual displays open up possibilities for games and applications that can make use of two separate screens. The format is particularly interesting for users looking to play titles originally designed around handheld systems with multiple displays.

The less expensive Retroid Pocket Duo Lite keeps the same basic dual-screen concept but makes several changes to reduce the hardware cost. It uses Qualcomm’s QCS6125 processor and ships with Android 15. The upper screen measures 5.5 inches and uses a 16:9 LCD panel with a 60Hz refresh rate, while the lower screen is a 4.2-inch 4:3 LCD panel, also running at 60Hz.

The Duo Lite also includes a built-in 6000mAh battery and integrated active cooling. Retroid has confirmed that the upper display supports 180-degree free hovering on this model as well. Unlike the regular Duo, however, the Duo Lite’s trigger design does not protrude.

The difference in display technology is one of the biggest distinctions between the two models. The Pocket Duo uses OLED panels with 120Hz refresh rates, while the Duo Lite switches to LCDs capped at 60Hz. The processor and operating system are also different, with the Duo moving to the newer Q-7790 platform and Android 16, while the Duo Lite uses the QCS6125 and Android 15.

Retroid’s decision to offer two versions gives buyers a choice between display quality and performance hardware or a lower-cost entry into the dual-screen handheld category. The Pocket Duo is listed at $269, while the Pocket Duo Lite starts at $149, putting a $120 gap between the two models.

The dual-screen design could also make these devices particularly interesting for emulation. Older handheld platforms that used two displays can benefit from separate game and interface screens, while Android apps can potentially use the extra display for controls, maps, inventory screens, or other supporting information.

Retroid has not positioned the Duo and Duo Lite as conventional single-screen gaming handhelds with an additional display simply added for marketing. The screen sizes, aspect ratios, hinged design, and dedicated controls point toward a system designed around the two-screen format. For buyers interested in a modern Android handheld that offers something different from the usual single-display designs, the Pocket Duo family could be worth watching.
