Microsoft is giving Gears of War fans another reason to prepare for Gears of War: E-Day, revealing a special edition Xbox Wireless Controller ahead of the game’s October 6, 2026 release. The new controller is now available for pre-order at $89.99, putting it $25 above the price of the standard Xbox Wireless Controller.
The higher price comes with a complete visual redesign based on the Gears of War: E-Day theme. As expected from Microsoft’s special edition Xbox controllers, the underlying hardware remains the same as the regular Xbox Wireless Controller, so buyers are primarily paying for the themed design, finish, and limited availability.

The Gears of War: E-Day controller uses several translucent and red elements to match the game’s aesthetic. The D-pad topper and X button feature a translucent finish, while the right analog stick uses a red design. The triggers are also translucent red, giving the controller a different appearance from Microsoft’s standard color options.
The back and sides of the controller feature a textured, leather-like grip. This gives the special edition model a different surface finish while also adding additional texture to the areas players normally hold during gameplay.

Microsoft is also preparing a separate batch of Gears of War: E-Day parts for Xbox Design Lab. These customization options were designed by heavy metal artist Luke Preece and will allow players to create a more personalized controller around the game’s branding.
The Xbox Design Lab customization options include a custom top case featuring two Chainsaw Lancers flanked by skulls. Buyers will also be able to choose from a selection of custom buttons. However, these Design Lab components were not yet available at the time of writing, so Microsoft has not provided all of the final availability and pricing details.

Both the special edition controller and the new Gears of War: E-Day Xbox Design Lab components will only be available for a limited time. That makes the controller more relevant to collectors and longtime Gears of War fans who want an accessory tied specifically to the upcoming game.
For regular Xbox players, the standard controller remains the less expensive option because the special edition model does not introduce different internal hardware. The $89.99 price instead covers the custom exterior, themed controls, and textured grips.
