Capcom has announced that global sales of Resident Evil Requiem have exceeded 5 million units. The title launched on February 27, 2026, and reached the milestone shortly after release, according to the company’s latest update.
The new entry arrives as the Resident Evil franchise celebrates its 30th anniversary. Since its debut in 1996, the series has grown into one of the publisher’s core properties, with cumulative sales now surpassing 183 million units worldwide. Over the years, the franchise has expanded across multiple console generations while maintaining its survival horror identity.
Resident Evil Requiem was developed using Capcom’s proprietary RE ENGINE. The engine enables detailed character rendering and advanced lighting effects, contributing to realistic environments and character models. Capcom highlighted visual elements such as facial detail, environmental depth, and light translucency as part of the production focus for the project.
In terms of gameplay, the title offers several accessibility options designed to appeal to a wide audience. Multiple difficulty settings allow newcomers and long-time players to tailor the experience. The game also supports real-time switching between first-person and third-person perspectives, giving players the flexibility to adapt the camera style based on preference.

Ahead of launch, the game drew attention at Gamescom 2025 in August last year. It received four awards during the event, including the “Most Epic” distinction, which recognizes overall presentation and audience impact.
Capcom said it remains focused on delivering engaging gameplay experiences backed by its internal development capabilities. With Resident Evil Requiem reaching 5 million units sold, the latest release adds another milestone to the franchise’s three-decade history in the global gaming market.
