KRAFTON has unveiled Project Windless, a new single-player open-world action RPG set in the universe of the Korean fantasy series The Bird That Drinks Tears by Lee Yeong-do. The reveal took place during Sony PlayStation’s State of Play, accompanied by the first trailer showcasing a vast world filled with myth, war, and legendary heroes. Project Windless is being developed by KRAFTON Montréal Studio and is built using Unreal Engine 5, promising a highly detailed and immersive environment for players to explore. The game is planned for PC and consoles, and it focuses solely on a premium single-player experience with no live-service or multiplayer elements.
The game takes place approximately 1,500 years before the events of the original novels, during an age when legends were still being formed. This approach allows the story to act as an entry point for new audiences while expanding the world for existing fans. Players will encounter four intelligent races—Humans, Rekon, Nhaga, and Tokkebi—each with its own culture, history, and role in the ongoing conflicts. The narrative structure is non-linear, letting player choices influence the alliances and outcomes of battles across the continent, offering a world that reacts meaningfully to individual actions.

In Project Windless, players step into the role of the Hero King, a legendary warrior from the Rekon race, a group of humanoid bird beings known for their strength and ferocity. Armed with twin star-forged blades, the Hero King engages in fast-paced combat, cutting through multiple enemies while confronting massive creatures in epic-scale battles. Reputation and relationships with other factions play a key role, as players unite different races and shape the foundations of a future kingdom.

Combat is fully real-time and skill-based, giving players control over large-scale engagements instead of directing armies from a distance. This system, called Mass Technology, allows thousands of soldiers and creatures to fight simultaneously across dynamic battlefields, combining tactical decision-making with direct action.
KRAFTON Montréal Studio leads development, collaborating closely with teams in Pangyo, South Korea, blending Western AAA development practices with cultural authenticity and world-building inspired by Korean mythology. Alongside the trailer, KRAFTON released the first developer diary, offering insight into the game’s creative direction, design philosophy, and large-scale battle systems. Project Windless aims to provide a fully realized, narrative-driven experience where players actively shape the story, wars, and alliances in a richly detailed fantasy world. Additional information, including a release window, will be shared in the future.
