Ayaneo Launches Next 2 Windows Gaming Handheld With Ryzen AI Max and 165Hz OLED Display

Ayaneo has officially launched the Next 2, its latest Windows gaming handheld, following its initial reveal and previews last year. The device succeeds the original Ayaneo Next introduced in early 2022 and brings a redesigned chassis, updated display technology, and AMD’s latest Ryzen AI Max processors.

The Ayaneo Next 2 features a larger body with more pronounced grips compared to its predecessor. The updated design is intended to provide better handling during extended gameplay sessions. At the center of the device is a 9.06-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2400 × 1504. The panel supports switchable refresh rates of 60 Hz, 120 Hz, 144 Hz, and 165 Hz, allowing users to adjust performance and battery usage based on workload. Ayaneo lists peak brightness at up to 1155 nits, along with 5280 Hz PWM dimming and full DCI-P3 color coverage.

Under the hood, the handheld is powered by either the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 or Ryzen AI Max 385 processor. The Ryzen AI Max+ 395 is a 16-core, 32-thread chip based on AMD’s Zen 5 “Strix Halo” architecture, manufactured on TSMC’s 4 nm process. It supports boost clock speeds of up to 5.1 GHz. Integrated graphics are handled by the Radeon 8060S GPU built on RDNA 3.5 architecture, featuring 40 compute units clocked up to 2.9 GHz. The processor also includes AMD’s XDNA 2 neural processing unit, rated at up to 126 TOPS for AI-related tasks and system features within Windows.

To manage thermals, Ayaneo has equipped the Next 2 with a dual-fan cooling system using dual exhaust airflow. The device houses a 116 Wh internal battery, which is larger than most handheld gaming PCs currently available. This capacity is intended to support both high-performance gaming and general Windows use.

Input hardware includes adjustable-torque TMR joysticks, Hall-effect linear triggers with dual-mode trigger locks, and an eight-direction D-pad. The system also incorporates dual touchpads, four rear-mounted buttons, and additional customizable keys. Connectivity options include two USB4 ports with support for up to 40 Gbps data transfer and DisplayPort 1.4 output, a microSD card slot, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.4.

Pricing for the Ayaneo Next 2 starts at $1,799 for the Ryzen AI Max 385 model with 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage under early bird pricing, rising to $1,999 at retail. The Ryzen AI Max+ 395 configuration with 64 GB RAM and 1 TB storage is priced at $2,299 early bird and $2,699 retail. A higher-tier model with 128 GB RAM and 1 TB storage is listed at $3,499 early bird and $4,299 retail.

Pre-orders are scheduled to open soon via Indiegogo, with shipments expected to begin in June 2026.
