Capcom Announces Mega Man: Dual Override, Set for a 2027 Launch Across All Major Platforms

Capcom has officially confirmed the return of the Mega Man franchise with the reveal of Mega Man: Dual Override during The Game Awards. This marks the series’ first major installment since 2018’s Mega Man 11, giving fans a fresh reason to look ahead to 2027. After several years without a new entry, the announcement signals renewed activity for the long-running action platforming series.

The reveal trailer presents a blend of familiar and updated elements, focusing on classic 2D platforming with a modern, cell-shaded look. The footage showcases various action sequences, including Mega Man navigating futuristic environments and engaging a new set of robotic enemies. Near the end of the trailer, Mega Man briefly appears in an enhanced form, hinting at potential new gameplay mechanics tied to the “Dual Override” theme. Capcom has not elaborated on this feature, leaving room for speculation until additional details are shared.

The trailer concludes with a short whistle sound that many long-time fans will instantly recognize. While Capcom has not addressed its meaning, the audio cue suggests that the upcoming title may include returning characters or familiar story threads. For now, the publisher remains focused on introducing the project gradually.

Alongside the trailer, Capcom released a brief description outlining the direction of the new game:

“Mega Man returns in 2027 with a brand-new entry in the classic action platforming series! Override challenges and blast down legions of robots while springboarding across a new array of futuristic frontiers!”

While the statement doesn’t reveal much about the storyline or structure, it confirms the emphasis on classic action platforming, a core element of Mega Man since its earliest days. To involve the community, Capcom is also hosting a Robot Master contest. Fans can submit their own boss designs, and the winning entry will be featured as an official Robot Master in the final game. This continues a tradition of fan participation that has appeared in past projects.

Mega Man: Dual Override will launch on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2. Capcom has not provided a release window beyond the 2027 timeframe, and further updates are expected as development progresses.

To accompany the announcement, Mega Man 11 is receiving a limited-time discount across major digital stores. Players can pick up the title for under $5 USD through the PlayStation Store, Nintendo eShop, Xbox Store, and Steam. Capcom has also prepared a localization update for Mega Man 11, adding Brazilian Portuguese and Latin American Spanish. The update is scheduled to go live later tonight.

With Mega Man returning after nearly a decade, 2027 is shaping up to be an important year for both the franchise and its fans. More information on Mega Man: Dual Override is expected in the coming months as Capcom continues development.
