A group of former Criterion developers, known for shaping well-established racing series such as Need for Speed and Burnout, has introduced a new entry into the Star Wars franchise. Their studio, Fuse Games, revealed Star Wars: Galactic Racer during The Game Awards 2025, confirming that the title is in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S with a planned release window in 2026. The project is being published by Secret Mode, adding another major collaboration to the growing lineup of Star Wars games currently underway.
This announcement marks the second Star Wars reveal featured at the event and becomes the sixth confirmed project in active development. Other titles include Star Wars: Eclipse, the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic Remake, Star Wars Fate of the Old Republic, Star Wars Zero Company, and the upcoming third installment in the Star Wars Jedi series. With this expanding list, Lucasfilm continues to diversify gameplay genres within the franchise, giving fans a mix of action-adventure, story-driven, and now high-speed racing experiences.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer sets itself apart by offering more than traditional podracing. Instead, the game blends pods with classic speeders to build a wider vehicle roster inspired by different parts of the galaxy. Fuse Games describes the title as a run-based racer, meaning track conditions and challenges shift from race to race. This approach is aimed at creating sessions where each attempt feels different, giving players new situations to respond to each time they enter an event.

Matt Webster, CEO of Fuse Games, noted in the official press release that Star Wars has always carried a sense of excitement tied to speed. He explained that the team wanted to create a racing experience shaped by exploration, competition, and decision-making under pressure. According to him, each race is designed to highlight risk-versus-reward choices as players navigate fast-moving courses.
Douglas Reilly, vice president and general manager at Lucasfilm, added that racing elements have been part of Star Wars from the beginning, from podracing on Tatooine to high-speed chases featured throughout the films and series. He stated that Fuse Games aims to build on that foundation with a fresh interpretation designed for modern platforms.
Players will begin their journey as independent racers in the Outer Rim. As they advance through events, they will compete in the Galactic League—an in-universe racing circuit meant to reflect the scale of the franchise. Vehicle customization is a core feature, allowing players to modify and refine their rides to suit different environments and racing styles.
Fuse Games emphasizes replayability, with courses, hazards, and racing scenarios shifting with each run. Combined with expanded customization options and a progression system that spans multiple locations, the game aims to give players a reason to return to each track.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is expected to launch in 2026, with additional details likely to be shared closer to release as development continues.
