Pathea Games has released the first trailers and screenshots for its upcoming open-world action RPG, The God Slayer, confirming its launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, and PC via Steam. Originally announced in July 2023 as part of the PlayStation China Hero Project, the game has generated attention for its Eastern-inspired steampunk setting and dynamic gameplay systems. A release date has not yet been provided.
The game takes place in Zhou, a fictional city inspired by Ming-era China, blending traditional cultural elements with steampunk technology. Its world is powered by Qi, a system of elemental magic including earth, metal, fire, water, and wood. The narrative begins with a catastrophic event known as the God Fall, in which powerful beings called Celestials destroy a kingdom and its elite Elemancers to maintain their immortality. Players take on the role of Cheng, a young warrior whose family is killed during this event, setting him on a path to challenge the Celestials and ultimately slay the Supreme Celestial.

The God Slayer is designed as a systemic open-world RPG, where player choices affect both combat and story outcomes. Each of the game’s seven Chapters concludes with a major boss fight, while players can freely explore the city and surrounding areas. Missions offer multiple approaches, including direct combat, distraction through elemental powers, bribery, or strategic use of the environment. For example, players may use fire to evaporate water, set up bombs to distract enemy forces, or poison enemies to gain an advantage before facing a boss.

Combat in The God Slayer emphasizes Chinese martial arts combined with elemental powers. Cheng can mix fire, water, earth, and metal in creative ways, with the environment responding logically to his attacks. This allows players to plan encounters and interact with the world in strategic ways, adding depth beyond traditional action RPG gameplay.
The story-driven campaign features a cast of characters and multiple decision points. Players can choose allies, influence the city’s citizens, and alter the course of events based on their actions. The combination of narrative depth, systemic gameplay, and tactical combat aims to offer both engaging story progression and replay value for players seeking alternative approaches to challenges.
While no release date has been announced, the first trailers and screenshots provide a clear look at the game’s steampunk city, character design, and combat system. With its mix of Eastern-inspired aesthetics, elemental gameplay mechanics, and open-world exploration, The God Slayer is shaping up to be a detailed and tactical action RPG for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC audiences.
