Bandai Namco has released new information for Code Vein II, confirming a January 30, 2026, launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Alongside the release window, the company outlined the game’s narrative structure, timeline, and main characters, giving players a clearer look at the direction of the sequel.
The story revisits a historic global incident known as The Resurgence, a phenomenon that altered existence on a fundamental level. During that period, both living and non-living matter twisted into beings later known as Horrors. These creatures overwhelmed human settlements and brought civilization close to collapse. Revenants, beings who had remained hidden until then, emerged to restore order. One powerful Revenant eventually sealed The Resurgence, giving the world a limited period of peace.
A century after that first seal, the effect weakened, leading to the conflict known as The Upheaval. Revenants once again united to prevent another catastrophe. Many lost their lives in this conflict and became honored as Heroes, remembered for the role they played in restoring stability. Their influence continues to shape the world’s history in the events that follow.
In the present setting of Code Vein II, humans and Revenants live side by side, but harmony breaks when Luna Rapacis suddenly appears across the land. Its presence causes Revenants to transform into Horrors, setting the stage for a new crisis. Players take the role of a Revenant hunter tasked with preventing the downfall of the world. This mission is supported by Lou, a girl gifted with the ability to manipulate time. Through her power, the protagonist can travel back 100 years to the era in which the Heroes lived.
A central element of the plot focuses on Cocoons, structures responsible for keeping The Resurgence sealed. After the Upheaval, these Cocoons appeared in locations across the world. However, in the current timeline, they are erupting violently, destroying surrounding regions, and creating an urgent threat. Inside these structures rest The Resurgence’s Offspring, Horrors believed to be the direct cause of the world’s ongoing destruction. Their origin is hidden, known only to a few Revenants who guard the information closely.
The protagonist’s objective is to break the seals on the Cocoons and defeat the Offspring before the world falls apart. The keys to unlocking these seals are tied to the Heroes of the past, which is why the journey into the previous era becomes essential.
Bandai Namco also introduced Josée Anjou, a character expected to hold a significant role in the storyline. Her determination is captured in her statement:
“As long as I have two legs to walk, and two arms to fight, I will give everything I have to keep this city’s hopes alive!”
As the launch date approaches, further details regarding gameplay, combat features, and character systems are expected. With its expanded world, time-shifting narrative, and ties to major events in the series, Code Vein II is positioned to continue building on the foundation set by the original title.
