Lenovo Legion Go 2 Set to Launch at IFA 2025 with OLED Display and AMD Ryzen Z2 Extreme

Lenovo is preparing to unveil the Legion Go 2 gaming handheld device at IFA 2025 in Berlin, running from September 5 to 9. While earlier expectations placed the launch closer to the end of the year, new leaks suggest the announcement will take place at next week’s trade show. Marketing images and promotional videos shared by Evan Blass provide the first detailed look at the upcoming model.

The Legion Go 2 introduces several key upgrades over its predecessor. The most notable is a 144 Hz, 1080p OLED display with variable refresh rate (VRR) support. This improvement directly addresses one of the original Legion Go’s biggest limitations, offering smoother visuals and better responsiveness for gaming. The leaked materials also reveal a new “Next-Gen Excimer” coating designed to improve surface durability while making the device easier to clean during regular use.

Inside, Lenovo is equipping the handheld with AMD’s Ryzen Z2 Extreme APU. The chip combines Zen5+5c CPU architecture with the Radeon 890M iGPU, a pairing that has already shown strong performance in early benchmarks of competing handhelds such as the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X. This hardware upgrade positions the Legion Go 2 as a capable option for modern PC gaming on the go.

Connectivity and expansion remain a focus, with the device featuring dual USB Type-C ports and a microSD card slot at the bottom. The detachable controllers will use the same connector system as the first-generation model, though Lenovo has slightly refined their ergonomics for comfort. One area that appears unchanged is the charging connector accessory used when attaching the controllers in “console mode,” which Lenovo has chosen not to update for this release.

The Legion Go 2 reflects Lenovo’s continued investment in the Windows handheld gaming market, an area that has seen rapid growth in recent years. With established competitors from ASUS and Valve, the addition of an OLED screen, faster processor, and design refinements could help Lenovo strengthen its position. Pricing and release dates have not yet been confirmed, but more details are expected to be announced during Lenovo’s IFA presentation.
