Sony Hints at Porting More First-Party PlayStation Games to Xbox, Switch, and PC

Sony Interactive Entertainment may be preparing a major shift in its publishing approach. A newly posted executive role suggests the company is looking to expand its multiplatform strategy, potentially bringing more PlayStation-exclusive titles to Xbox, Nintendo, and other platforms.

The job listing is for a Senior Director of Multiplatform & Account Management, tasked with building and executing global commercial strategies for PlayStation Studios titles beyond the PlayStation ecosystem. The position directly references Steam, Epic Games Store, Xbox, Nintendo, and mobile platforms, indicating a broader scope than previous initiatives.

Sony has already made progress in releasing games on PC, with several major first-party titles—such as God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Spider-Man Remastered—finding success on Steam and Epic Games Store. However, Xbox and Nintendo console releases have remained highly limited.

One of the few exceptions has been MLB The Show, which made its way to Xbox platforms starting in 2021. This move was driven by Major League Baseball’s licensing requirements rather than a broader shift in Sony’s publishing policy.

More recently, Helldivers 2 launched on both PlayStation 5 and PC and is now confirmed to release on Xbox Series X|S in the coming months. Its cross-platform release could be a sign of Sony testing the waters, especially for online-focused titles with long-term live service plans.

Sony Group CEO Hiroki Totoki has already spoken about the need to improve profitability and reach wider audiences. With AAA game development becoming more expensive and time-consuming, platform exclusivity is becoming a harder sell for studios seeking better financial returns.

The job listing also includes Nintendo among the target platforms. While that doesn’t confirm any immediate plans, it does suggest Sony is exploring opportunities previously considered unlikely.

This move doesn’t mean that all future PlayStation titles will launch on Xbox or Nintendo, but it reflects a clear strategy shift. As development costs grow, Sony seems more willing to follow a multiplatform model, similar to what Microsoft has already embraced for its own titles.

Over time, more PlayStation exclusives may make their way to rival platforms, expanding access to Sony’s popular franchises across the broader gaming market.
