Konami Confirms Silent Hill Remake is in Development by Bloober Team

Konami has officially announced that a remake of the original Silent Hill is currently in development. The news was revealed during the Press Start showcase, where a short trailer hinted at the return to the fog-covered town. Shortly after the reveal, the official Japanese Silent Hill social media account confirmed that the title in question is indeed a remake of the first entry in the long-running survival horror series.

Originally released for the PlayStation in 1999, Silent Hill helped define psychological horror in video games. Its use of atmospheric tension, minimal exposition, and symbolic horror has left a lasting legacy in the genre. The upcoming remake is being developed by Bloober Team, the Polish studio behind last year’s Silent Hill 2 remake.

Bloober Team’s previous work on Silent Hill 2 drew attention for its faithful recreation of the original experience, while also introducing modern enhancements such as updated combat mechanics, improved visuals, and more detailed environments. The same development approach is expected for the Silent Hill remake, although no specific gameplay details or release date have been shared at this time.

Konami’s decision to revisit the first game suggests a continued commitment to reviving its legacy horror franchise. Over the past few years, the company has gradually increased its support for Silent Hill-related projects. In addition to the Silent Hill 2 remake, multiple titles, including Silent Hill: Townfall and Silent Hill f, are also in development by different studios, aiming to expand the series’ universe.

The brief trailer shown during the event did not include any in-game footage, but the music and tone strongly resembled the eerie atmosphere fans associate with the series. Longtime composer Akira Yamaoka’s work has been an iconic part of the Silent Hill identity, though it is not yet confirmed whether he will return for this project.

The remake of the first Silent Hill marks a significant moment for the franchise. While later entries in the series have had mixed reception, the original game remains a landmark title in survival horror. Bringing it to modern hardware with updated visuals and controls could introduce the story of Harry Mason’s search for his missing daughter to a new generation of players.

More information is expected to follow in the coming months, as Konami continues to build momentum around its Silent Hill revival strategy.
