GEEKOM is reportedly preparing to introduce its QS1 Pro mini PC, marking the company’s entry into the world of Arm-based PCs. Following a teaser leak earlier this month, new details about the system’s specifications have surfaced, offering insight into its capabilities and positioning. However, questions about its competitiveness remain, particularly against established options like Apple’s Mac mini.
Specifications: Snapdragon X1E-80-100 and Powerful GPU Performance
According to leaked information shared by a Spanish technology outlet, the QS1 Pro will be powered by the Snapdragon X1E-80-100 System-on-Chip (SoC), part of Qualcomm’s X Elite family. The X1E-80-100 features 12 Oryon cores and an Adreno GPU rated at 3.8 TFLOPs. Interestingly, the leak also suggests a GPU performance figure of 4.6 TFLOPs, raising speculation about a possible variant or a typographical error. If true, it may hint at the presence of an X1E-84-100 SKU with even greater capabilities.
Memory, Storage, and Connectivity
The QS1 Pro aims to cater to users with demanding workloads by offering up to 64 GB of LPDDR5-5600 RAM, along with an M.2 2280 slot supporting up to 2 TB of PCIe 4.0 storage. The mini PC will provide a robust selection of connectivity options:
- Display outputs: HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort 1.4
- High-speed ports: USB4 and three USB 3.2 Gen 2
- Networking and audio: 2.5 Gbps LAN, an SD card slot, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack
This array ensures versatility for both productivity and multimedia applications.
Pricing Concerns
While the technical specifications position the QS1 Pro as a high-performance mini PC, the leaked pricing has raised eyebrows. The device is rumored to be priced between $740 and $840, which places it in a higher price bracket compared to many x86-based mini PCs and competing Arm-based systems. For context, even Apple’s entry-level Mac mini starts at a lower price point.
Release and Market Outlook
The Geekom QS1 Pro is expected to make its official debut at CES 2025, where GEEKOM may shed light on its final specifications, pricing, and positioning. Given the growing interest in Arm-based desktop computing, the QS1 Pro could be an intriguing addition to the market if its pricing aligns with consumer expectations. However, unless the pricing rumors are inaccurate, GEEKOM may face challenges in persuading users to opt for its system over more affordable or established alternatives.
With CES around the corner, the industry won’t have to wait long to see whether the QS1 Pro delivers on its potential or struggles to justify its rumored cost.
