Xiaomi has officially launched its new Mi Box 5 series, bringing a range of improvements to its popular lineup of streaming boxes. The new models include the standard Mi Box 5 and the higher-end Mi Box 5 Max. Both models come with notable upgrades in audio-visual capabilities, connectivity, and storage, aimed at delivering a more refined home entertainment experience.
The Mi Box 5 series introduces support for advanced audiovisual standards, including Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and DTS: X audio. These additions enable higher-quality visuals and immersive sound, aligning the devices with the evolving demands of modern home entertainment systems. Compatibility with multiple formats ensures broader integration with diverse home theater configurations.
On the hardware front, the Mi Box 5 is powered by a quad-core Cortex-A55 processor and comes with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. This configuration is suitable for most streaming needs, including app usage and basic gaming. For users looking for more performance and storage, the Mi Box 5 Max offers 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, allowing for smoother multitasking and more space for apps and media.

Both models support dual-band Wi-Fi 6 for faster and more stable internet connectivity, which is particularly useful for streaming high-resolution content. Bluetooth 5.2 is also included for improved wireless connections with peripherals like headphones, speakers, and game controllers.
Xiaomi has equipped the Mi Box 5 series with its in-house Pengpai OS, an operating system designed for better integration with the company’s ecosystem. The boxes also come with support for NFC-based one-touch screen casting, enabling quick and easy content sharing from smartphones to the TV.
The inclusion of the Xiao Ai voice assistant allows for hands-free control, content search, and smart home integration. Users can use voice commands to control playback, check the weather, or manage connected devices within the Xiaomi smart ecosystem. This feature continues Xiaomi’s focus on AI-based smart home integration, though the feature set may vary depending on regional support and language availability.
In terms of physical design, the Mi Box 5 series retains a compact form factor and includes a USB 2.0 port, which can be used for external storage or connecting input devices.
The Mi Box 5 and Mi Box 5 Max are currently available in China, with global availability and pricing details expected to be announced later. These new models aim to compete with other mid-range streaming boxes in the market, offering a balanced combination of performance, features, and ecosystem integration.
