World War Z VR Launches August 12 for Meta Quest and Steam VR, Bringing the Zombie Swarms to Virtual Reality

Saber Interactive and Streamline Studios have announced the official release date for World War Z VR, the virtual reality adaptation of the popular third-person zombie shooter. The game is scheduled to launch on August 12 for Meta Quest and Steam VR platforms.

Designed from the ground up as a first-person VR experience, World War Z VR brings players face-to-face with massive swarms of zombies in a new immersive format. The original game’s large-scale action and fast-paced combat have been reimagined to take full advantage of VR capabilities, offering a more intense and physical experience tailored to virtual reality systems.

World War Z VR places players in the middle of chaotic survival scenarios across three major cities: New York, Tokyo, and Marseille. Each location has been recreated with large-scale environments that aim to capture the tension and verticality familiar to fans of the franchise. Missions unfold in densely populated urban zones, with hordes of infected capable of overwhelming the screen with over 200 zombies simultaneously.

Players can choose from seven different characters, each with unique traits and customizable loadouts. The game includes a range of weapons and perks, allowing for different combat styles and strategies. Missions can be played alongside AI squadmates, who assist players throughout each encounter. In addition to regular infected, the game features special enemy types designed to increase the challenge and push players to adapt.

To further cater to a wide audience, World War Z VR includes three difficulty settings. These can be adjusted to match the player’s preference, whether they’re looking for a more casual experience or a tougher survival test. Zombies will respond dynamically to the player’s actions, providing varied gameplay with each session.

A pre-order bundle is now available that includes both World War Z VR and the original World War Z game. Players who pre-order the VR title will also receive the Golden Skin Pack as a bonus, adding cosmetic weapon options at launch.

World War Z, originally released in 2019, was praised for its cooperative gameplay and ability to render large groups of enemies. The VR version aims to preserve the core appeal while offering a fresh perspective suited to headset users.

With its official launch coming in August, World War Z VR adds to a growing list of high-profile VR titles bringing major gaming franchises into the immersive space. As the VR market continues to expand, long-time players and newcomers alike will have the opportunity to experience the zombie apocalypse from a new point of view.
